my sister recently moved out and she was pretty much my only connection with the outside world. I always followed her like a lost puppy (which is sad because I'm the older one) I can't seem to make friends on my own since I'm an introvert and I just don't know how...
I also can't drive anywhere myself due to 'anxiety issues' which I wont discuss but the point is I can't and it makes it hard for me since I can't join any clubs due to this. I don't know what to do and everytime my sister comes around I feel the need to follow her and do what she's doing (I mean, I like the stuff she does but I cling to her) like going to comic conventions, I have to follow her and can't branch out (I get too scared to branch out, even though I want to badly...it just doesn't feel natural when I do because i've been leaning on her for so long) what should I do? such as if I go to these conventions? How do I handle this? I'm so scared and I don't have any friends to take along with me and the ones I do have are hers as well and being she's one of those trendsetter/leader people they all wanna follow her too. (but the don't seem to mind following but I do sometimes cuz with all of them around it's hard to keep up with her) what do i do? |

Start joining on-line sites for comedy, and other areas of interest and start to gain at least "internet friends", this was a good start, good for you.
As you develop friends, you will find some will be from your State and will be more than happy to meet you at the door and say hello. The more you interact, the more you will be able to and seeing "face to face" is hard for the first time, getting to know people over the internet will help you. Don't join ones where anyone can be-friend you, as you will suffer anxiety over "who are you" , make them have to enter codes to be-friend you for instance so that you can make the decision, and that would be based on long term communication as apposed to someone you don't know at all. It's hard for sure but your sister will always be there.. CW

do what you fear often enough, and soon the fear will go away.
I am an introvert too, hate public speaking, speaking in front of others, large groups of people, etc, and used to fear all of those things. doing them often helped me to no longer fear doing any of them. now i still dont like it, but i no longer have the fear. try going to one on your own, or to a local club, hangout, etc. may take awhile and feel very awkward, but it's not going to change unless you make it change. I know you can make it change. |
