Basically i have always wanted to go to university....
I do fine art alongside a creative and media advanced diploma at college now and i want to be a scenic artist or set designer for film...
But my family don't see art as a career let aload trying to be a scenic artist for films....
I have found the perfect university ((Rose Bruford college for theatre and performance))
It has the perfect subject ((Scenic arts))...
It would be a dream come true to go but i family don't want me to...

If i go i walk out on my family, but if a don't go i walk out on myself....
I know my dad ((RIP)) who pasted away would really what me to go...
But im scared of being without family, cuz i would be on my own...

Please could u tell me what u would do...

I got a fine arts degree. My dad was upset for years that I didn't go to be a teacher. (yuck, I'm a terrible teacher)
Now I own my own business, work from home and live a good life. I put my time in and I work hard but it's rewarding. And now I have the success and freedom to travel and do sports and all the things I like outside of work.

I also did it all on my own. Student loans, 2 and sometimes 3 jobs while in school. It was tough and I was flat broke, living on cereal and rice for years. But it was all worth being able to do what I wanted, what made me happy and what I was good at. It paid off.

Follow your heart and work hard, you're family can't argue with that.

Let it be your challenge. Strive hard and persevere. Distractions are in the way for sure, could help you in the right moment, but most of the time, would hinder you in stepping to the next level.

You have what it takes. Sourpuss did, so will you. Be true to yourself and follow where your heart leads you. They may not understand you now, but when you go out there, explore and find yourself, you will succeed. Then, they will understand you.

Prove that you can, first to yourself, then to them.

Go for it! It's unfortunate your family isn't praising your choice of even wanting to be in college in the first place. At least you are trying to pursue a future for yourself. Don't let them stop you. Yes, it will be hard- but prove to yourself, and others, that you can make it in life, doing what you want to do. I know of people who were forced into college from their family to fail out and make their family upset. I can see if you chose a horrible path of life, say, drugs and you're out on the street because of them. THAT is a reason to not be wanted by family.
Go to school for what makes you happy and in the end get an awesome job in the field of work you want. With or without your family's help it will be hard. Yes, even harder without their support, but you will have a sense of pride and accomplishment on your graduation day with yet another degree in your hands.
