My baby brother is starting college this week at UNC for Computer Engineering!

I have a slight concern, I know that college kids like to experiment with alcohol and drugs... both my parents have had substance abuse problems so we have a genetic disposition to develop a problem should we ever start drinking or trying anything else. I have made the decision to never drink or smoke or do anything else for this reason, but he may not make the same choice and eventually succumb to peer pressure. I trust him and have confidence that he'll make the right decisions, he's a good kid, but I can't help but be a bit concerned. But, other than that, I am really excited for him and know he will do well... he's smart just like his big sister lol. I'm so proud of him and just wanted to share.

    Hey kristalyn

You have a good reason to be concerned, but at the end of the day your little brother is going to have to make his own decisions (im sure you already know that ) but maybe a sister to brother heart to heart talk might do the trick??

I think for most college students, drinking is almost inevitable. But it doesn't have to be a bad thing, just another one of those experiences. Have confidence that your bro will act responsibly, but that he won't forget to have a little fun too.

lol yup you're right, I wouldn't want him to be deprived of some college fun, I just want him to be careful. I still had fun in college without ever drinking, I just don't think it's necessary to drink in order to have fun... but yeah in the end it's his choice and I'm sure he will be fine. Thanks!
