Most here don't know my family and I are hunters. Not Elmer Fudd type hunters, but serious, take no questionable shot kind of hunters. We don't like animal cruelty any better that anyone else and always take shots that won't allow the animal to suffer.
That being said, turkey season is coming soon and can't wait to spend time in our blind with my family. I love that part more than anything.
We have drug dealers in our neighborhood and I have a concealed carry permit for a handgun. My wife has decided to take the course too. I'm excited because it educates people in safe gun handling practices and accurate self defense. It makes you aware of everything going around you and allows you to protect yourself. I can't wait for her to get the permit.

I truly believe women should have the right to protect themselves against any felon or attacker. Or anyone else for that matter. I've been mugged twice and our home has been broken into 3 times, this is why I feel this way. I'm not in the frame of mind of being a victim, I'm a survivor. I've survived several times in extremely tough situations and always came out on top. Besides, a woman with a gun- What's not to love about that? An Empowered Woman is always Sexy as heck!

One other thing about this thread, I'm Documented 3/4 Cherokee and don't believe in putting dead animals heads on the walls and Nothing of the animal is wasted. Not even the bones, they are boiled for the broth. We waste nothing.
Did anyone pick up my heritage on any of my posts? I just wondered.

Nope, didn't pick that up but you aren't the only one here who's background includes the First Americans. Are you enrolled?

I felt there had to be something about you... the way you talk about respecting all living things and how you put you hunt for "a living"...

I am a small amount American Indian... sadly I don't know that much about that part of my family because it was on my grandfathers side and he has passed.

Check out the County records where your family is from. Talk to anyone who will talk to you about your family. It's a good place to start. I hope you find your lineage. It gives you a sense of who you are like nothing else will.
One thing about us Natives, only an eye doctor can tell- your field of vision is wider than anyone else's. Put your arms out to each side, wiggling your fingers while staring straight ahead. See how far back you can move your arms back and still see them in your peripherial vision. I can see both my fingers well past my own shoulders. Try it, it will surprise you.

I understand keeping guns for sport or hobby, and keeping them locked up safe when not engaged in the hobby -- however for home or personal protection... sadly-- the statistics on guns kept in the home for defensive purposes is that when they end up getting used, they are used on someone close to the family -- accidents, suicides, homicides -- rediculously more often than they are ever used on would-be attackers or intruders.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

There are plenty of ways to keep a guns safe, but for those who are careless with weapons are generally careless with many things and they have a habit of having life happen to them and their loved ones. I would like to see the statistics for those who have been trained in the use of guns and insist that anyone in the household be trained as well after they are old enough. Then compare them to the overall statistics or to those who don't value training. There might be some surprises in such statistics. For handguns there are push button safes that can be operated in pitch black for rapid access to a handgun. For long guns there are more conventional safes to keep them away from visitors and children too young. Unfortunately too many believe that buying a gun is as far as they have to go to be a responsible gun owner.

I've carried a handgun for years loaded and on or about my person. I've handled guns since I was 6 years old. Everyone in my home has gone through basic gun safety and/or handgun safety courses. Any gun is just as lethal as a dull butter knife. It's all in the hands of the operator. More accidents happen playing tennis than with guns.
I've been handling guns for 40 years and haven't had anything go wrong- Ever-
One more thing about this subject, What good is it locked up? I guess the intruder will give you the chance to go get it while he/she waits. None of my guns are locked and every one of them are loaded with a shell in the chamber, or as we refer, "in battery". I'm locked, cocked and ready to rock Doc- no thug will ever get the drop on me again. I've been mugged a couple of times and I've had a pistol pulled on me. And I've had a pistol pointed at a guy he'll bent on robbing me, I will pull that trigger if pushed. I dont want to, but I shouldn't be put in that situation either.

Most who are anti gun have 0 training in any kind of weapon. A pencil can be just as lethal as a 357. It's all in how it's used.
I'm not trying to start an argument and please don't take it that way. I only want people to be informed and empowered, not be a victim or be of the victim mindset. I don't give up, I don't give in and I Always Will come out on top- no question about it. I'll live, I'm the good guy-
