Out of nowhere, my uncle got me and my sister these really nice, brand new HP Mini laptops. I loved it! He always spoils us with expensive gifts like that (we dont expect him to, but he has a good paying job so he just does). Well, the computer I got works, but really badly. I'm not familiar with Windows 7, which is frustrating, but I'm good at computers so I try with it. The fact that I have to slam down on every key to type sucks, but its a working computer. However, I've had to restore the computer TWICE the first two nights I had it because it was actting funky and not listening to my commands and got infected and stuff. And then, this morning it all topped off my furstration when it restored itself, without my command to. Everything I downloaded the night before was gone! It made me so angry. But, I got over it, or so I thought.

Then this evening I was casually playing around on it and it started freezing up and acting stupid. So, to get out my frustration, I said to my mother. "I hate this computer. Its so stupid." Now I didnt meant I HATED the computer. I love that computer! Its awesome. But I meant, I hate how its acting. So then my mother started yelling at me about "How Ungrateful I Am" and "How I Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth". I tried to explain my frustration, but she said I'm a spoiled little brat.

I explained I hated how it was acting, finally, and she told me to just go put it back in its box and not touch it again if I'm going to be so ungrateful about the gift. Dont I have a right to be angry at how its ACTING?

I fully understand why you snapped and said you hated the laptop. Going through that kind of thing which can take hour's at a time, can be very frustrating.
Did you fully explain to your mother that you had been trying to fix it and how it restored itself?

Maybe if your mother doesn't fully understand the whole laptop/computer thing. Sit down with her and explain it as, you took a lot of time setting up things, and downloading stuff. Explain to her that you put a lot of time and work in to it, and it wiped it off itself. Explain that, that is why you got frustrated, not because you hate the laptop. After all if you hated it, why would you have spent so much time trying to fix it?

Second thing is, a brand new laptop should not be doing that. It may be faulty. I suggest instead of telling your mother about that, say it to your uncle. He can bring it back to the shop and they can check it for faults.

I can see why your mom reacted like that. It mirrored my own reaction reading your post, until I got to the bit at the bottom where you explained why you said that.

Next time start with the explanation first, so there are no misunderstandings.

And I agree with Agony that there's probably something wrong with the laptop if it's acting like that. Unless you've been visiting some really unsafe sites and downloading random things, that shouldn't be happening. See if you can get a techie to take a look at it.

Save your data to a USB stick can keep you going in between. Maybe it is still infected.
