Sizing is a mess. Each designer it seems makes things fit a little bit different. I agree with the poster that said she didn't want to go up a size higher than she actually is in other clothes to fit that brand. To a lot of people that may seem silly to care about a label inside that no one can see but its mental.

The higher a number is the less good we feel about buying it. In misses I wear a 2 to 4 and in Juniors I wear a 3 to 5, depending on the brand. I use to be a plus size and I think some stores/designers are catching on to buyers feeling better about buying smaller sizes.. plus size stores like torrid got rid of the size 18, that is a size 0 in their store, a size 24? is like a size 2 or something. Even though the women know that obviously that is not the size they would be in a non plus size store, for me when I was bigger - it DID make me feel better shopping there for that very reason.

Forgot to say don't even get me started on how they handle large breasts. I have a small frame and large breasts and find a cute little dress that fits my body just right but makes my breast pop out the top of it. Find a dress that fits the chest right and it drapes over the rest of me too big. I stick to the stretch material at least for the top part when it comes to dresses to avoid that.

lol Exactly! But you know, after having my son, finding those kinds of nursing bras were never a problem. But there is no way I am buying a nursing bra to get the right size. lol

Clothes sizes have never bothered me at all. I try to find clothes that are exactly what I want, unique, and fit perfect. I tend to fall between a 4-6, but in some brands I can go as high as 12. Doesn't matter to me, I know I'm fit and healthy, I don't need a certain size to make me feel good about myself and neither does anyone with any real self esteem.

With all due respect, Niam.. while size may not matter to you, and it shouldn't to any woman.. when you have fought long and hard to get to be a certain size for whatever reason it matters I don't think it makes them lack "any real self esteem". Different women have different goals in mind when it comes to fitness, for some its just a healthy fit feeling, for some its a number on a scale and for some its that special size.

I stand by what I said, Dork. If you need a number on a scale or a size to make you feel good about yourself.... your self esteem is hanging by a thread or not there at all. But of course I've never been fat, so I don't know what it's like to reach a goal weight or the excitement that might come with finally fitting in a size 2 or whatever. To each her own. I just find it strange that someone won't buy something they like just because they refuse to go a size up, to me that's silly. I just find it really sad that women look to a lot of outward things to boost their self worth, that's all.

I think its a little silly too. Who is going to see someone walking down the street and say, "Oh My God! That girl is wearing a size **!" Nobody KNOWS that you had to pick that larger size, you are still the same size. The tag just says different. Eh...Ive been a 13 before in jeans and I never cared. I am now a 7. sometimes a 5 depending on the jeans. BUT, I havent dieted to get to that size. I just went down a lot more after having my son. I ate like a pig after having him and lost weight...how that worked, I have no clue, but I am happy with my jaw/chin/neck now.

Yeah, I think there in lies the difference, if you have never been fat, always been a size 2, yippie, you could care less about your numbers, size , measurments, weight as its never been a goal of yours. If you were a size say, 30 and got yourself down to a size 3 through hard work and discipline and a renewed vigor to your self esteem, you might feel differently.

I don't know why someone would care about a brand in their blouse tag, that no one can see when its on.. why it matters to them makes no sence to me - every woman that wears designer clothes must have their self esteem haning by a thread, because I don't understand why they prefer that label on the inside of their high heels telling them its Prada.

Just because you don't personally get something, I fail to see where it shows lack of self esteem, its her choice to spend her money on clothes that she wants, if she'd rather the label say 2 than 4 and in all her other clothes it says 2, and doesn't want to have a 4 in the closet.. so be it. Different strokes.
