    Default "Dressing my age"

After 5 years of "collecting" Seventeen magazines I decided to throw them out, but keep the (few) articles that are helpful or interesting. Looking through I noticed that I like some of the fashion, but I feel like I'm too old to wear them AND I'm so tired of every magazine copying off celebrities. I want fashion to be individualistic. I'm 22 years old and I describe my style as hippie grunge. What stores can I get this vibe, but still dress my age?

    Thanks!

I"m also grungy..but I tend to lean more towards goth/punk style outside of my elegant/classy look for work. I think thrift stores is a great way to rock the grungy look without breaking the bank, as with the grunge style..the older and more frayed looking your clothes are the better. Thanks to my late husband Kurt Cobain, Grunge is what you make of it...and i think as long as it flatters your body type you can wear anything you want. I think it's just about mixing and matching and making sure it works for you. Mom always tells me I need to dress my age also..but I"m not going to start wearing Mom jeans at 23!! What makes us unique is our style of dress..there are ways to add a spark of maturity to your look...for instance. If you're going to wear chucks or any kind of tennis shoes, wear a nice blazer or a nice cardigan to add that flair of maturity without looking grandmaish... accessories also bump up your look and you can still be chic and grunge/punk/goth whatever...happy shopping!

I am more of a punk. My favorite style is a black turtle neck, with leggings/jeggings, dark eye makeup, a long chain with a locket (owl or eagle) and boots.

There is nothing better than a blazer! Cute, fitted blazers can dress up any outfit, making you look more sophisticated! Take a simple outfit like some jeans and a t-shirt- add a blazer and maybe some heels and your teenager outfit is instantly transformed into an outfit of a successful young woman! You say that you're into hippie/grunge style.. why not grab some grunged up vintage boots, some skinnies and a flowery flowy top? The grunge boots mixed with the elegant flowy shirt creates a style that just screams EDGE. Piece together some jewelry to fully complete the outfit too! Mix grungey with girly and you create this edgy style that you can work just how you like!

She doesn't want to look like everyone else there tariq and has her own individual taste. I think she meant she feels to "young" to wear some of the things she has seen in the magazine as it would make her look to "old"

Goodwill stores are perfect, if you have funk, fashion sense, and colour co-ordination you can pull off some wicked things by mixing and matching and be individual and not look like anyone but yourself

I get my style ideas from the fashion shows for the new year and following seasons and start buying early. That way I can get what is "IN" but have it from the current selection, not the mass produced stuff you will find during those months. With this in mind, ONLINE is great.

Also, if you like the leggings look, I HIGHLY recommend an online site called blackmilkclothing.
They have dressy leggings, swim suits and some other stuff that is just awesome. My "style" is Khakis & Polos or cardigans but I really love that site...

exactly right! I think, these magazines can be inspirational but you should not rely on all the things they suggest, it's so commercial. And anyway, what is age in our time? Who defines what young and old means? It's completely up to everybody individually! The modern media put women especially under pressure. There are so many clothes and accessoires which can be combined in many ways, old things, and new things, shiny things and shabby things. What makes people old is when they never try something new! I think everyone should try to be flexible, then one never gets old! What I like very much is a love for detail, a nice bracelet, or a nice ring can make the difference. And these details don't have to be of the latest fashion. Sometimes a classic silver bracelet or a classic womens watch are all you need to wear to make an impression.
