Smile Any other (roller) skaters out there?

Hi, I'm new and have been busy as you may have noticed on some of these threads *LOL* I was just wondering if there are any other (roller) skaters out there?

I recently (last year) started skating flat track roller derby. We skate on quads not blades. I had actually not been on skates for 25 years prior. But back "in the day" I was pretty much a "rink rat". I don't do any high impact workouts due to a knee injury I suffered as a teenager. (I blew my knee out racing motocross). But skating...well skating is aerobic without being high impact, in fact it is pretty much low to no impact (unless I have to jump over a fallen skater during a derby bout.) and it's FUN! I had forgotten how much fun it is! It's great for the thighs and booty, gets your heart rate up (which is important) and really burns off those calories. Now I can't even remember why I stopped skating to begin with.

Roller skating and roller derby are making a comeback. So if you skated in your youth...now might be the time to take it up again. Of course if you're going to street skate you may want to invest in some pads and a helmet (they can be had cheaply at places like Play it Again Sports), but I think most cities in the U.S. still have at least one operating skating rink.

So....are there any other skaters out there?

I'm a skater. I do roller blades tho. I skated as a kid and used quads but I just never was able to get used to them. The day I slapped on a pair of blades, it just came natural.. I dont do derby tho. I'm more of a casual for fun skater and at one point it was part of a work out plan that my mom and I had going. All tho, the skating i did was very I impact. I did out door skating and honestly by the time I did a mile, my legs just wanted to fall off and that was from doing it every day....lol!!! Old asphault is not the best service to skate on.. HAHA!!!

Welcome aboard, Visuvius, WH is a great forum site...if you can get the darn program to work...lol I lose a lot of messages and it's not my fault. I think there is an idle time disconnect and then having to log in again. Naturally, doing so loses the message...grrrrr...

I was a dance skater, wood and ice. I liked the ice better than the wood tho. I loved it but my boyfriend was a bit jealous and even a bit angry with some moves my male partner had to make. I finally told him to get over it or get over me entirely... Sooo...as soon as we graduated Harvard, we got married and I kept in competitions until getting pregnant a couple of years later...he adjusted to the dance routine eventually. I really loved skating but don't miss it too much. I guess it's just another chapter of our lives and then we move on. I have an awesome husband and twin girls as well. My marriage is heaven on earth. I do have oodles of pictures of my skate dancing to show my girls when they are older and I do intend to give them every opportunity to skate also. They are still a bit young for many hours but are working into it gradually...

I have seen some roller derby films, Visuvius, and doubt that to be my style as I would be like a ragdoll being tossed everywhere...lol I am well trimmed but hardly muscular enough to compete in that punishment...lol

Thanx for the bif, Visuvius, and don't be shy in the rooms here...
