    Hey everyone!

I'm 19 years old, and I've been overweight pretty much my entire life since puberty. I'm around 5'6" and weigh 177. I haven't let this drain my social life or my self-esteem.. but the fact is that it is prevents me from doing things that I would otherwise love to do and is a burden on my health. I want to be the best me that I can be. My brother has already lost a great deal of weight, so I mentioned that I wouldn't mind tagging along with him to the gym 5x a week. I made this sort of a competition with my boyfriend... who also wants to slim and tone up a bit himself. Haha

I was just wondering what your suggestions are for losing weight efficienty for an hour every weekday? While I trust my brother's advice... I also fear that he might not know the best ways for a woman's body. I'm not concerned so much with calorie burning as actually exercise- as my main problem is NOT eating and not over eating itself. However, if you have some great advice on things to eat more of or less of then that is fine!

    Thanks!

Just a tip: My boyfriend is losing 1kg a week (approximately 2.2 lbrs) by not drinking soda at all, eating fruits instead of candy and by having two proper meals a day. We thought it would never work as he doesn't exercise at all, but it does!

Thought I'd share as seeing how it helps him makes him very happy and it could be something to consider

Do a little research on nutrition and exercise. If you have the money available, it may be good to hire a personal trainer for a few sessions. Let them know your goals and ask for their advice for a good plan for you.

Down and dirty recommendation would be:

Strength train using a full body approach 2-3 times per week. These sessions should focus on large exercises like squat variations, deadlift variations, pushing and pulling. If you want specifics, just ask.

On top of this, some sort of metabolic activity (i.e., cardio) 2-5 days per week for 20-40 min a pop. Again, I'll gladly delve into specifics if you wish.

It seemed to me you simply wanted generalities.

And yea, you can't out-exercise a poor diet and fat loss comes down consuming less energy (calories) than your body requires, so obviously you need to pay attention to this.
