    Hey everybody,
I like to take my daily walk around my neighboorhood. I know a lot of physicians will argue that a walk is not considered to be exercise, but it does get me active everyday, and I don't use that as my only means of exercise it's just nice to have days where you're not fulling pushing yourself to the limit! I take my Dog out with me every now and then and lately we've been getting some snowfall and I'm afraid I'm going to have a bad spill. My girlfriend told me about *Removed outbound link* which I have been SOO please with!! It's just a cover with chains, similar to chains on a car tire, on the bottom to help you walk in the snow. There great because you can put them over any shoe. If anyone wants to check them out I put a link at the top. Obviously you arn't going to get any exercise from just solely walking, but atleast for excercise in between workouts it is a great effective way keep your body active. Thankyou all!! have a nice day!

I do my daily routine morning walk almost everyday except on Sunday. If you're walking on flat land, it most likely requires longer distance to really have a good sweat. As for me, it's walking up a hill, which is not really high. A lap (320 step up and 320 steps down) would usually last me about 6-8 minutes depending on the speed of my climb. After 5 laps (about 30-40 minutes) will give me good sweating until my underwear. I feel great and wonderful after each walk.

    Great, Tricajus!

I have started walking/running alternately and it makes me feel good after the hard work. My shins hurt a little tough, maybe I just have to get used to it more.

Cat, what kind of shoes are you wearing? That could be part of the shin problem.

Yeah, shoes are a definate possibility. That, or your stride. I used to run putting a lot of the impact on the balls of my feet (very hilly where I am, tend to do that esp going up hill) and developed a bad case of 'shin-splints', which I think is just inflamation of the tendons or maybe the shinbones (tibia??) themselves. I wasn't smart enough to lay off running 'til it was too painful to even walk and had to quit running completely for a while.

Guess my point is that sometimes pushing thru the pain does more harm than good and is best to figure out the problem early.

The route up the hill is cemented with 8' pathway, with an inclination of about 45% steep. So, it's a little tough running up and obviously very stressful. I've tried running but half-way up I'm busted out of breathe....no enough stamina. That's why most of my buddies prefer to walk instead. When you're at the top with the morning breeze blowing unto your face.....the feeling is sensational.

I think that sometimes it's shoes that cause shin splints - I think that if you take on too much you'll get them. I remember when I was training for the Marathon I went from a "light" run to totally psycho.... like from 3 miles a day to 7! And MAN, it hurt.... I think you have to let your body catch up to where your mind is sometimes - but yes, you need the correct footwear as well.... but don't go too fast. Walking/running - it doesn't matter... the turtle wins in the end!

    Hi
i do agree that Walking is a good exercise especially to people on the go. i work in an office where i have to sit in front of the computer in the daytime , so weight loss is one of my problems. So what I am doing is I try to walk as much as I can during my go on and out of work.

    Thanks
