Today I have started my keep fit campaign - I had a 20 minute jog (well, jog then walk then jog then walk) then I did 30 mins on the Wii and I am monitiring everything I eat - summer is approaching and its time to shift the winter layers (fat layers!) - one of the guys I work with has asked me to do a 10K marathon in July - tempted..anyone else done a marathon and how do I train for it???

Lifes not about how many breaths you take its about how many moments take your breath away!
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars
A 10k is 6.2 miles. So you have plenty of time to prepare. But you'll have to be diligent until then.
I've done tons of 5ks, 10ks, trail races, even did a brutal 25k trail race/backcountry hike thing last year. (it was awful, but I love it)
If you're just new to running, you're doing the right thing by walk/jog. But since you're training for a race you're going to have to push yourself a bit more in the next several weeks.
Try to make the goal this month to be able to jog for a full 30 minutes without walking. Even if you go slow, that's ok. But try to get to a point where you can go for 1/2 hour without walking. Try to get at least 4-5 runs in a week too. Maybe every third week, take a little break and only run 3 times.
