    Default pain while running

While running today, after setting the speed much higher than usual [on treadmill], I felt pain near liver and the right shoulder.

As an example, you can see in the picture, the red line and circle - that's where I felt pain.

Why is that? It happens whenever I run at a higher speed, usually when running out of breath. Is it related to heart and the fact that lungs don't receive enough oxygen?

Sounds like your having what we've always called a 'stitch' or 'cramp'. I've not known anyone who'se ever been able to say for sure, but the best explaination I've heard is that they come from not warming up well before doing intensely aerobic exercise.

I don't think they are harmful, just painful

well...before running I work out on the Elliptical for 30 minutes, and right after that I work on the treadmill. So I don't think it's an issue of not being warmed up enough.

Research is increasingly showing that stretching before the muscles are warmed up is useless or damaging but so far as I know getting "stitch" in your side is corrected by breathing properly. Make sure you get plenty of water (but don't be sloshy) and potasium (a banana will do it)
Aside from that running shoes are responsible for a large part of running related injuries. If you want to learn a great deal about running healthy and safe, get a copy of Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee's book, Barefoot Running.

a banana is good for shin splints. A friend of mine swears that orange juice helped with her side stitch problem.

I have had pains there before and I was told it was from not breathing properly. Make sure you're getting enough oxygen and breathing correctly when you start speeding up.

Whenever I get "side stiches" I find that singing out loud helps. I've read that it's the diaphram that is cramping and singing helps release the muscle.
