So, got my knees to start feeling better and now I think I have possibly an aggravated tendon in my hip area... great I plan to take a few days off, taken ibuprofen and ice it, but can anyone offer advice on how to pick out good shoes for high intensity workouts??

I am jumping around a lot and I feel like my running shoes aren't cutting it... How do you pick out appropriate shoes for your workout??

Where exactly in the hip area? It's probably not your shoes but your IT band.

it's at the top of my right leg where the leg connects to the hip on the outside/back area kinda. I have read that it might be my IT band as well. Have not had it checked out yet. It was hurting a bit Friday but then I worked out on it Saturday and Sunday. although the stuff I read on the IT band said it could be prevented by rest and icing up usually and then making sure you're wearing the right kind of shoes.

Also try rolling it out and stretching...alot. Do you have access to a high density foam roller? They usually have them laying around at the gym, but you could also get one of those hard cardboard tubes that's inside a big roll of newsprint. Lay on your side, on top of it and roll up and down on the band.

If you have good running shoes that are soft and have a lot of support, then they should be good for aerobics as well. What shoes are you wearing now and how old are they?

I will definitely look up and try some stretches...

I just got these shoes about 5 months ago. They are Asics gel running shoes. I don't know the exact style. I'd been reading that the Ryka brand has really good reviews from women doing Zumba and other aerobic type activity. I think maybe I just did it too much in one week maybe and/or might be getting close to replacing the shoes. I think the gym has some of those foam things.

Definitely try the foam roller and lots of stretching. I had the same problem when I was running and hiking alot and that worked for me, as well as a friend of mine.
Your shoes should be good. Do you have a specialty running store where you live? Here we have Fleet Feet, they will analyze your stride and your foot shape for you to get you the right kind of shoe.

If you'd like to be more ambitious and have the funds, you could also see a podiatrist who'll scan your feet. They'd also be able to tell you what's wrong with your feet and/or might refer you to a specialist if your IT band or anything need attention. They'd also provide you some orthotics if you need them these are inserts that help cushion your feet in any footwear. I got mine done I just need to get my new insurance info in so they could see if the provider would cover for it. If not, I was told that the orthotics cost about $350.00

Cat, they do. I've had them since I was 10 years old. Back then, they used to make a plaster mold of your feet and send it off to have the orthodics made. Now you just step in a little box they give you that has some type of memory foam in it and they use that to make the inserts. I was looking to get new ones since mine are almost 15 years old and I've found several companies that sell them on the internet for around $100-$200. And they use the same foam box thing. They just mail it out, you step in it, send it back and they send you the inserts. It's worth looking into because with the technology now, you don't need to go to a foot specialist anymore.

Hands down the best information and advice I've found anywhere, ever on this subect is the book, Barefoot Running by Michael Sandler and Jessica Lee. We need to quit messing up what works and let it operate the way it was intended and most shoes are the source of the problem rather than a solution.
