Most of us have a six pack of sorts already, we just have it covered with a blanket....
I'm a little confused by the 'burn more than you take in' advice. If you eat, say, 1500 calories a day, do you mean that you need to burn more than that in a day? Because that's kind of crazy. :s
Everyone has a BMR (basal metabolic rate)... Basically, how many calories do you burn while your body is at rest in a neutral environment? You obviously don't just burn calories when doing exercise, but in pretty much everything that you do.
So, according to my weight and height, without exercising, I burn approximately 1440 calories per day. With exercising, I burn about 2000-2200 calories per day. If my caloric intake is 1200, then, yes, I'm burning more than I'm taking in.
Anyways, that's how it was explained to me a couple of years ago by my nutritionist. You can look online for a BMR calculator to get an idea of what yours is.

^ Ahh I see, thank you for explaining it. I'd never actually heard of a BMR calculator, and now I've used one it's been really helpful. From what I've seen I'm on the right trackthank you!
