    Question the stair stepper/climber

Why does my chest hurt sooo bad when I only do about 5 minutes on the stair stepper? I would like to do the stair stepper because I have heard its a great way to help burn fat and tone the lower half but I can't manage to go anymore then minutes.

You will build endurance the more you use it. Start with your 5 minutes, then walk on tread mill for the other 25 for a week... then the next week step it up to 6 minutes then 7. I love the stairmaster and feel since i've switched from elliptical to that, that I'm doing double duty, fat burn and toning and love it. When I started I could only tolerate 10 minutes and it was too much but I just kept at it... gradually increasing my time on it and building up my endurance.

If you smoke... don't do so for a couple of hours before and after your work outs. If you are new to exercise in general... start with walking on treadmill, building up to a jog and level ground first then build it up.

If you are getting chest pain though, you should see a doctor before continuing your routine so that they can make sure you are okay... especially if you take birth control pills.

I have a Bowflex Treadclimber and I LOVE it. I alternate though between that and running. But I tell ya, running is a BREEZE after a workout on that darn Treadclimber.

Like HD said, start small and increase. When I started, I thought I was going to drop dead after about 15 minutes, but if you stick with it, the build up happens at a good pace.

They are, they are, they are!!! One of the BEST things I've bought, I have zero regrets about it. At first, I thought I was going to die (I've had it a little over a year). I used my treadmill all the time, but I got on that thing and felt like I'd never worked out in my life. I used the treadclimber consistently for months and didn't use my treadmill at all. The first time I got back on my treadmill, it was a breeze, lol, I hardly felt like I got a work out in. Now I alternate every other day between the two.

But yeah, I would recommend one to anybody, plus the impact on the knees and ankles is very low for those who have issues with running but still want a total killer workout.

I might have to try the stair climber next time I'm at the gym. I've seen people using it, but I haven't tried it myself yet. It definitely looks like it works up an amazing sweat!

I've switched from elliptical to stairmaster about 5 months ago and ALREADY... on top of awesome cardio I am noticing a change in my butt... its getting bigger and firmer lol. When I turn to the side there is more junk in my profile trunk than there was 5 months ago... its like making my but lift and firm... and I am diggin it...lol Stairclimber = good news!

That sounds great HD! I love when I can tell that my butt is lifting Even though it definitely makes the pants fit way differently I am definitely going to try that for a few minutes tomorrow morning and see how it goes. Although I am guessing it's going to be WAY more intense than my 45 minutes on the elliptical. I give myself 7 minutes tops lol

Are you guys talking about the ones that look like a rotating staircase? That's the one I do and it IS a great workout. It's basically like hiking up a steep mountain but you're not able to slow down.
I usually do 10-15 minutes at the end of my workouts and put in on a higher level just for one last heart rate spike. It's a great workout for sure.
