I am very thin with large breasts. I like my body except I’d like my tummy to be a little more toned, so I’ve started taking pilates classes. I am worried though that they are going to somehow affect my breasts. Are there any experts in the house who know if this is the case? I want to keep the classes up but I’d be devastated if I started decreasing in cup size!

Most fitness trainers agree that "spot reduction" doesn't work. In other words you can't lose fat in only one area of your body. You can gain muscles and tone in specific areas (like abs etc) by training specific areas... but fat loss is different as in its a result of burning calories, done through cardio and healthy dieting. If you are trying to lose fat in your stomach ONLY... doing sit ups wont get rid of it... it will build muscle underneath it that you wont be able to see or feel until there is enough fat loss to expose it.

So to answer your question if you are losing weight or trying to lose weight ANYWHERE on your body, you may lose volume in your breasts, you may loose baby fat on the face and neck, you may loose it in your rear or thighs or anywhere there is body fat, and where you lose it first all depends on your genetics and the way your body stores and thus removes fat.

So if you intend to lose the excess weight off the middle, there is no way to prevent losing it in other areas of your body. If your stomach is the only area with fat its likely that the bulk of what you lose will take place there, but there is a good chance you'll reduce fat in all areas... including breasts.

Your best bet is making sure you are doing strength training along with cardio and dieting and that way you firm as you lose and I know pilates incorperates toning along with burning fat so that is a good choice.

Depending on how much weight you have to lose will make the difference on how the weightloss will affect your breasts, but losing the weight around the middle is worth losing *some* breast volume as carrying fat around the tummy is the most dangerous area for being overweight and leads the most health risks such as heart disease and diabetes, etc.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

The answer is yes. Any weight loss will include breast tissue because all breast tissue is, is fat. So any type of exercise which is an awesome thing, will have this effect. But who cares, you would be in better shape and healthier, and You can not do spot reduction. The body doesnt work that way.

Pilates combined with jogging helped me lose a lot of weight after pregnancy. I've lost 40 pounds and went down 3 cup sizes. But I have a well-toned body now and am very happy with it, including breasts, I like them small.
