Do you do a lot of cardio? Especially HIIT cardio. Many people think that doing a million crunches will give you great abs. Not so! You might have a strong core, but there will still be a layer of fat covering them if you don't do your cardio.
Hold a 25lb barbell and do side bends. They usually make me sore. I do 2 sets of 25 on each side. Also you can do side planks, those are good too!
