    Default Lose My Hips?!?

I love lifting weights and I love riding bikes.

But I keep hearing that a woman's curviness (is that a word?) might be reduced when doing such strenuous exercises. But it doesn't make sense to me because why would a woman lose her hips while exercising? Doesn't she always have her hips?

I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging, but I do like my waist-to-hip ratio. I just hope to tone down my whole body.

I'm also 19 and never had a child, if that makes a difference for anything

It's very difficult to "spot" train or reduce anything since muscles in certain areas of your body are all tied together anyway.

If you are shaped in a certain way, I think you'll remain that way whether you tone down or firm up or whatever.

It is my belief that some women are just more curvy than others.

If you are truly looking to tone down your whole body, have you ever considered rowing? Or using a rowing machine at your local fitness center/gym?

For one piece of equipment, I'd be willing to bet that you will use the largest number of muscles doing that one exercise. Approximately eighteen different muscles are used when rowing is done correctly.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

    Thank you very much, Seeker_Advice.

They do have a rowing machine at the gym I use, so I really appreciate the suggestion.

I was correct....18 muscles are used when the rowing machine is used correctly.

So overall, it might give you the results you're looking for in one machine.

Do you know whether or not it's a Concept2 rowing machine? If it is, you can go to their site and see which muscles are used and how.

Total body toning for a total body workout.
