Has anyone else felt this way? I'm not a very tall or big person. I'm 5 ft. 2 inches tall and weigh about 97-100 lbs. Past the stage of perhaps growing taller. I know I'm not fat and I'm not trying to develop an eating disorder or anything. Still, I feel like my stomach is rounder and pokes out. My mother says it's because I just started birth control, or that women are supposed to be curvy.
I just feel like it's the only part of me that's bigger. What can I do to mitigate this, but not lose weight? Is there any way to do this?
I would do cardio with weight training maybe 3 days a week. The cardio will flatten your tummy and the weights will give your body a tone. Do light weights around 15 reps. You won't bulk up or lose weight , you'll just gain muscle and lose fat. Good luck!
Agreed. Unfortunately you can't really spot reduce. Some people are just prone to storing fat in certain places. Losing fat on the other hand will require total body workouts whether its in the ab region or thighs or arms etc. Will also help to pair it up with healthy eating plan. For some a switch in diet is all they need and their genetics or metabolism takes care of the rest.
Actually it's not about how much crunches you do or how many laps you can do around your old high school track. It's the food that you eat. You have to understand that you liver is the reason why you get hungery and when you're not feeding your liver the sugar that it needs every 2-3 hours. It will start storing fat in you stomach,middel level back, arms (biceps & triceps) and in some cases your inner thighs. It's the food!! I use to do 100 crunches a day and buy the latest abs machines, but none of them worked. I mean yes I can feel my six pack under my rolls, but I still wasn't confortable with being in a bikini. Once I started to following a great diet plan that I got at click here >>>(edit link) my husband and I really saw the inches come off. Now instead of going out to get the px90 or the instanity dvd I invest my time and money into my diet. Good luck girl!

Thinks to keep in mind about core work. Relaxed muscle sticks out. Great posture requires a strong core, so if you want to work on your core in your daily life focus on your posture. Tuck your tailbone, and engage the belly up and in. This is bhanda (yoga term). Pilates, yoga and general athletic stuff will help you with that.
As a health and wellness coach and yoga instructor I remind my clients and students that Function equals form. If you do a lot of physical activity that uses X muscles the body is going to condition it to be stronger and more resilent in those areas. Also keep in mind that if your in under 20 your metabolism may run higher and help that process so if there is a certain type of body you want (toned, athletic for example) and you enjoy a particular sport, physical engaging endeavor, I encourage you to explore it now and help train your body to do it. This will also give you a fantastic outlet later in life to promote wellness and balance.

One thing to remember....
Your CORE is the area just below your rib cage down to just above your pubic bone and ALL the way around. So, IF you really want to pull your abs in, it's important to work your abs, work your obliques and work your lower back.
Most people think their "core" = their abs amd this IS NOT correct.
