    Hi KMonte,

I can't help because I've never done anything like that in my life (although I'd love to someday), but I just want to say best of luck, it's going to be a fantastic achievement :-)

Thanks a lot, clare! I appreciate the well wishes!

Let me tell you, a year and 60+ pounds ago I would never have said I could do this thing! Part of why I'm so excited (besides this being a totally new experience for me) is just because it shows how far I've come physically after busting my booty at the gym and changing my eating/living habits.

Since it's been a number of years since I've done one, I thought the best way I might be able to help is to tell you to search on the internet.

I typed the following into the big G search engine: Tricks to transitions in triathalons

and came away with some interesting tips. Even a couple of videos too.

    Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks Seeker! I've been a triathlon-googling queen these last couple weeks! I found some really great tips, and a wholllllleeee lotta bologna! I was hoping to get some first hand tips from peeps here, since internet searches usually end up in information overload, and no real way to tell what is correct and what is malarkey!

But I'm getting there, and I found out that my triathlon offers tips and training plans for newbies! - so I'm focusing on a lot on their tried and true advice!

That's quite an inspiration to know that only a year ago you had 60 pounds to lose. I haven't got quite that much to go, but if more people who want and need to lose weight could hear stories like yours then there might be afew more success stories about!

I just think there's so many overweight people who believe they'll never be fit and healthy again, and it just isn't true :-(

Any one have any tips for what to do on those extra sore-muscle days? I got out of bed this morning, and OUCHIE!

I'm 2 weeks into my "official" training schedule and my calves and quads are FEELING IT! I'm starting to cramp up when I'm only about 500meters into my swim. And my cycling is suffering too since my quads don't have the push needed to keep cadence while going up the steep hills on my route..

I warm up before and stretch after... not sure what else I can do? I need to keep on point with my schedule so I don't want to just take the day off because I'm sore.. that will put me behind on my training!

What do you guys do to relieve the soreness and prevent the cramping that can happen with endurance training???

everything I've read says "rest rest rest"

but that will set me back! Pain is an indicator so I don't want to load up on Ibuprophen and keep trucking... but not sure what else to do!

I've started taking hot baths in my airjet tub (I knew I had that installed for a reason! LOL) and that seems to help at least makes me stop walking like a cowboy, but the muscle fatigue is still plaguing the intensity of my workouts...

    Two words: Water, Magnesium

How are your transitions going ? What are the tricky parts for you ?

Thanks V! Have these tips helped you in the past? What does the magnesium do? I hydrate like crazy.. at the very least I drink 80oz. of water a day. but more could be better since I'm sweating more!!!

Transitions are going alright... I'm doing great on my T2 bike to run transition. Swim to bike could be better... its hard getting cycling shorts and socks on when you're wet. And I have a terrible time getting my cycling shoes clipped in. I had to stop trying that for a while because I fall every time. Messed up my derailleur pretty bad, and my elbow and shin. So we'll work on that at another time

I have used magnesium to assimilate the lactic acid faster in my muscles so the training is no longer painful.
    During a 25 hours/week training regimen I needed that after a while.
And the water to rehydrate the body. I am also a heavy sweater

I am surprised that you are doing so well in the bike to run transition !
That's the hardest...I thought at least.
I am sure you can afford to lose a minute to get your shoes well clipped before the cycling and recover all that
