Heyy...here's a question that has been very hard to find on the internet, because whenever I type "how to lose muscle" in a search engine, my options are usually "how to lose weight and gain muscle". Everybody seems to WANT to be muscular...

My problem is that, I'm a girl, but I gain muscle way too easily. I was a little bit chubby as a little kid. I was never fat, but I was a little flabby and had a nice round tummy. In my teenage years when I started getting more conscious, I tried joining basketball practice, playing badminton. I used to do simple work outs at home too. Particularly crunches, to get that FLAT stomach.

Right now, I'm 18 year old and I'm told that I have a great body. I have fairly toned arms. I have muscular abs. Not ripped or anything, but it looks carved in the middle. a little like this:

My friends tell me it looks really hot and that its the perfect body. The thing is, I don't like looking like this because I don't feel it looks feminine at all. Especially where I'm from, which is India. I don't wanna have this angular body shape. I wanna be lean, but look curvy and smooth...and I'm also SUPER scared about gaining muscle by working out more or lifting weights.

I'm not too muscular or anything, but my body is more athletic than anything else. I really want a feminine goddess-like body type. What should I do? How do I stop myself from gaining muscle from work outs? There is so much advice on the internet for people who want to lose weight and become curvy and skinny girls who can work out to become curvy. But how do I go from a muscular or athletic body to a curvy body?

Simply exercise less. If you cut down on your workouts, you wont build muscle. A while back I had to stop pretty much all exercise due to an injury, I lost all my muscle tone quite quickly, I didnt gain weight because I cut down on food to balance out the lack of exercise. In fact, I lost weight because muscle weighs more than fat. Failing that, if you use weights - dont, more reps, less weight.

Want you want is lean muscle rather than bulky muscle, this relates to how you exercise and stretch. You can build muscle to be short and bulky or to be lean and long. Check out Classical Stretch, this is what she specializes in.

Yoga also stretches rather than muscles up. It is designed to make you lean in the arms and legs especially. Don't know how it goes on encouraging those curves though!

I like jogging and running, I know that its cardio exercises which wont normally cause bulky muscles, but if I only do that now, will it prevent from my existing muscles from becoming more lean and supple?

And what are the effects of jogging on the body overall? Will it naturally shape the body, or is it only for weight loss? Does it tone my legs?

Jogging/running tone your entire body, most especially your calves and thighs. It also help tone your midsection.

If you want leaner muscles, use lighter weights, more reps. After workout, you need to do yoga or pilates to stretch your muscles. I believe in a holistic approach, that is, weight/resistance training, flexibility/balance training, agility and endurance training, with the right amount of sleep and sufficient amount of water, and a balanced diet.

If you'd like, you can read about P90-X and its routine. It involves a lot of varied activities, from weight lifting, cardio, kenpo (American martial arts), yoga/pilates, etc.
