    hii alll
i was gestationally diabetic, and my delivery was on sept 2010. i was not under medication during pregnency, i had just a diet control. now recently i had lots of butter cookies, and did a blood test on glucometer. it was like 113 and 156( after 2 hr of food). i got scard met a doctor after 2-3 days , did a blood test at lab, and it came like 98 and 141( after 1 hr food). my doc sad not to eat direct sweets and to limit fruits in take so that i can prolong diabetis.
i would ike to know what precaution i can take.. like what to eat, fruits esp.
    may be i am panicking,
can any one contribute to this?

Research foods that are low on the glycemic index. Anything with a glycemic index less than 55 is considered low. My recommendation is to stay away from sweets altogether. They provide you zero benefit. But if you simply MUST have something sweet, pound cake is probably the lowest GI bakery type food. But even it is borderline and should be eaten sparingly. As for juices, your lowest GI juice is apple juice. But again, drinking water is what you need so stay away from juices when possible. White bread is very high......take it out of your diet totally. As for cereals, try All-Bran or Oatmeal. You can sweeten your oatmeal with black strap molasses or honey in moderation. Low fat yogurt is a great option. As for fruits, dried apricots, apples, pears, peaches, grapefruit and cherries are all moderately low. Most pasta's are relatively low. Stay away from potatoes unless they are sweet potatoes. Beans and lentils are an excellent option. Almost any vegetable you can think of, is very low on the glycemic index.

The thing about the glycemic index is that its not necessarily about the amt of sugar in the product, but the way in which it processes in your body. It's important to learn those things.

Try adding cinnamon into your diet. It's great for blood sugar regulation. Add it into your oatmeal. You can even buy cinnamon capsules.

Complex carbohydrates should become your friend (when you eat carbohydrates). Aynthing that is or has been processed to an extreme...like white bread/flour should be eliminated. Same with all sugars...white granulated sugar is the worst. Obviously, soft drinks/soda pop must be eliminated too.

Instead of honey, try Agave Nectar. Agave Nectar is a low glycemic sweetner similar to honey (a bit more runny and a bit more sweet), so you don't need as much.

There are many things you can do, most of them diet and exercise based, but it's all up to you.

Try not to think of this as a diet but rather lifestyle changes. Diets tend to be short term for most people while lifestyle changes should last your lifetime.

There are several Low Glycemic cookbooks on the market as well. Perhaps your library might have one.
