    Default dumb bell exercise

I am 62 yrs and have never really had much muscle but in the past few months I have been doing a bit of what I optimistically call weight training where I have four varied routines I do with dumb bells. Now, my dumb bells are pretty light, only 2kg so I was wondering is light with more reps as good as heavier with fewer reps. Or doesn't it matter much as long as I do what I can?

The other question I have is, I see on any sites about this sort of thing that I should do this on non consecutive days rather than every day. Is every day harmful, or is that just for variety to do other exercises?I usually do a bit of yoga (I think it is called Hatha yoga, so mostly just stretches) nearly every day as well. And then I also try for a walk. I enjoy all this exercise, but should I really be doing some of these every day, or would I be better to do more of one, one day and then more of the other the next? Your opinion would be helpful thanks.

Light weight with more reps = tone. More weight with less reps = bulk, The choice is yours.

As far as the every other day option, your muscles need time to rest. If you work them every day it can be bad for you (depending on the weight/reps), that's why they suggest one day upper and then the next lower. Yoga and walking are good every day (unless you're doing power yoga, in which case, you need some rest). Regular yoga is good for daily routines, though. Good luck!

Nothing that I don't agree with the above poster.

Age is not relevant, injuries are, or athritis, there you have to be careful about the amount you life as not to hurt yourself as well.

Walking , stretching , water and good healthy food also play apart in well being .

    Good for you.

Thank you for this helpful advice. I think I probably need to spread my exercises out a bit without reducing if possible. There can be too much of a good thing - or so my mother used to say!
