Probably the best exercise overall for the body.

Invest in a good pair of properly supportive shoes too.

Walking is definitely a step in the right direction. Just getting up and moving is half of the battle. As you are walking, try listening to different types/genres of music with varying tempos so that you can increase and decrease your pace, almost subconsciously!

As someone in the field for about 25 years now, believe me, walking is absolutely great for you, and as others have said, depends on your overall goals. Walking is WAY better than doing nothing at all. An incredible amount is being discovered about the true value of walking and if at all possible, do so barefoot on the sand or grass (on real ground, not pavement) as often as possible to benefit from the electron flow into your body, from the earth. It is an fantastic natural free radical scavenger.

If you have a lot of excessive weight, walking is a great place to start. I've worked with people who have had about 100 extra pounds, and walking *alone* (meaning as their sole form of exercise) brought that weight off (over time).

For diabetics with a lot of extra weight, walking alone is proven to help stabilize the glucose/insulin issue.

Outside of walking there are other avenues that can create much more dramatic results, just depending on your lifestyle and goals.

Default exercise is the best way to lose weight

There are a few ways you can take to combat the increase in weight gain. One of them is to exercise. A significant number of overweight people because they live a sedentary lifestyle, that is, a life devoid of much physical exertion or exercise. Nowhere is that more so than in the U.S. where there is one vehicle for every two people, and people prefer to drive even for ridiculously short distances.

I think walking is one of the finest exercises around. Whether you are interested in health, fitness, weight loss, or aging, there's not too many things that have such a beneficial effect as walking.

I think we can all agree that walking is good exercise. This has become a spam-magnet.
