So I went to my first ever yoga class today. It was the "hot yoga" variety (I don't know the proper name and the place is called that so whatever ). I know nothing about it, but had a lot of fun. It was so relaxing, challenging, and, well, great!

So I want to know...who else does yoga? what kinds? Is yoga really that great for you? What are the best types? Tips? experiences? What did you pay for a lesson? Anything you want pretty much. I'm really interested in hearing about it.

i love my yoga. i have back and feet problems and was looking for low impact strength training. yoga allowed me to start exercising again. i believe that yoga has changed the shape of my body. it has taught me how to use core muscles. i actually went on ebay and bought numerous different yoga dvd's for beginners. some good and some not so good but i got 12 dvd's for $16 which included shipping. which made each dvd less than a $1.50. i would love to actually go to a yoga class but none are offered in my area. my chiropractor also highly recommends yoga. he said it is the best thing you can do for your core. if you like yoga, might i also suggest pilates. they work on similar concepts.

I did my first yoga session the other day at the 24 hour fitness gym that I go to. It was a "power yoga" session. AMAZING! I loved it. I felt so relaxed afterwards. It was definitely a lot harder than it looks too. Can't wait until the next session!

I am in week 6 of an 8 week session and our theme is Akhanda or holistic yoga. Week one focused on Compassion for self, Week two (Ahimsa) was the non-harm, Week 3 (Satya) Honorouring the truth, Week 4 (Asteya) non-stealing, Week 5 (Aparigraha) Non-grasping, Week 6 - (Brahmacharya) Wise use of passionate energy, Week 7 Contemplation of Death and Peace, Week 8 (Kitchikiri) gratitude.

So along with our stretching, breathing and posture exercises is the inward looking meditation of the above precepts. I do it with the belief that by looking internally I can heal or help heal my physical being.

I believe hot yoga is called Bikram yoga. I love yoga too but can't get to a class anywhere so follow DVDs at home. I have a few different forms that I do although I don't know all their names. I have to pick and chose a bit though because I am as stiff as a board lol Can't even comfortably touch my toes without bending my knees hahaha But I do so enjoy doing as much as my body will permit.

Yoga is very good for flexibility and toning your muscles. It is also good for relaxing with, getting stress under some kind of control. I find it is excellent in the evening to settle me for sleep.

I haven't really worked my way up to yoga yet due to some physical movement restrictions and wanting to pace myself but I do heartily believe in meditation. I try to do it twice a day, every day - more if I need to. I'm very much an "in my head" person and if I don't check in with myself now and then, the mental fatigue and stress is too much. The connection between your mental self and your physical self is amazing.

As long as you keep practicing you will fine tune your perceptions and your health will naturally improve.
The key is to stop trying to be, to look, and even do...and only be instead. Beyond the postures, which are the means to a higher purpose...
Behold the presence of the Father in all beings...
