Default Do I have weak legs for a man

I was told by this lady that my legs are on the weak side considering how strong my upper body is. She goes to the gym often so she seems very knowledgeable to me. I maxed out in a deep leg press at 410 pounds. Is that bad? She said it is poor because I can bench 255. I work out at home most of the time so I don't do any heavy leg lifting. I do run though but my legs are considered slim by most people. Genetics I think. I did see a few what looked to me regular gym goer men leg pressing more plates with reps and she proved she could press 450 a couple times but other woman were pushing like 180. Weak for my upper body size and strength or normal but just untrained?

What does it matter what this 1 person thinks? If you like your legs then that's all that matters. I don't think she has any business telling you what you should or shouldn't be able to leg press. Everyone's bodies are built differently and yours shouldn't be compared to others, and especially a womans. I think her pushing 450 is a lot for a woman, but like I said, everyone is different. There really is no comparison between a man and womans strength either.

I would say, if you like the way your legs are, why change them? If you think they should be more muscular, there are exercises besides leg pushes that can bulk the muscle up a bit, but I don't think you should take what this woman says so seriously.

Thanks for you support and comments. She is a friend of a one of the ladies I have done Yoga with and I have been in Yoga classes with her too. I don't think she was trying to make me feel bad. She was smiling that she could press more but not gloating. She commented on other guys in the gym with big arms only ever working their upper bodies so maybe a pet peeve of hers. As she put it she was pointing out a imbalance. I new I did not have big strong legs but never looked at myself as having weak legs.

Some guys have small legs, but bigger upper bodies. For many of those men, their small legs are a source of much self criticism and it's usually something that bothers them. Her "pointing it out" obviously created a bit of a self esteem issue (else you wouldn't be asking us, right? ). I'm a woman, my lower body is quite strong, my upper body is quite weak. There are probably 5 year olds who could lift more than me..........but I could truly care less because I am me, I can only work with what I've got.

With that said, no one, including men, should focus on only one area of their body to work out. But if you're working out your upper body, AND your lower body regularly then how much you can press is irrelevant. You do what you can do, you push yourself (but not to the point of injury obviously) and be proud of what you do.

Perhaps my first post came off a little harsh. I guess all I was saying is, I wouldn't be so influenced by other's comments. You're awesome the way you are and I give you a ton of credit for even being at the gym!

Thanks for the encouragement girls. BD yes I think Im a touch more sensitive to my lack of lower body development (in comparison) then I was before this. I was not unhappy with my lack of size and muscle in my legs and it never seemed to be an issue with the ladies. I have been called top muscle heavy by a few close friends. I still don't think my legs are weak but I could work on them more. She is definately strong in the legs and has the opposite body type. Her upper body strength is lacking but I think most woman are like you this woman having much more lower body strength then upper. I find running or the treadmill or spinning a good enough workout for the legs. Who needs big tree trunk legs lol.

Wondering since woman seem to put more attention to working out the lower body how many woman here do squats. Curious to how much some of you can squat. Don't worry about my feelings if you can squat a ton lol.

Sorry that I got into this conversation so late because this type of thing just "kills" me...

Anyone who knows anything about body building, weight lifting or over all health in general will tell you that it doesn't matter how much you lift. What's most important is how you lift it (form).

I've seen guys with tree trunks for legs and bad form, lift lots of weight. I've also seen guys with legs that aren't nearly as bulky and good form lift lots of weight. So it really doesn't matter...

If you want to add size to any part(s) of your body, your "routine" should be made up of 70% diet, 20% form and 10% weight in that order. the amount of weight you lift is dead last as far as importance.

So don't get hung up on how much you can squat vs. how much someone else can squat.

If you want to add or lose weight, get hung up on your diet...what you're eating and how often you're eating it.

    Good luck.

I always thought if you want to build muscle and make yourself bigger you have to life weights, a day of rest, and lift again so your body can regenerate certain tissue or something... do you know where I am going with this? lol...
