When I woke and pulled the curtains my heart sank. There was a bright blue sky-that meant heat and I simply cannot run in the heat. Its mid summer here. I thought my 6km run was doomed before I even started. But then again the venue was over 60kms away and coastal and the weather is often quite different there, so i went off hoping. I came to the brow of the hill that blocks the view to the coast and YES there was a wonderful cloud bank down south. I had a chance.

There were heaps of people at the start but being only being a fun run we all began somewhat haphazardly. I was in the middle of the bunch. I figured if I could come in a little better than last I would be happy but as we started I noted that most people ran about my speed!! I was amazed because I thought I was slow as a trickle! Anyway I passed quite a number of people, many of whom were a third my age and just kept going. No one passed me!!

I ended up doing the 6kms in 35minutes! I was stoked. There were no placings but I was in the first third or so. Mind you there were no real guns there, just casual runners. It was a real fun experience.

Thank you to my friends here who encouraged me. Its great being able to share this first experience of running with you all.

Ahh, thank you so much for your lovely words of encouragement. It is the icing on the cake to know there are others who are excited about my efforts!

And Cyndie, I do so appreciate you telling me I have in some way inspired you to keep on plugging away. So often we do and say things that may help someone change their lives, even if in a minimal way, and never know about it. It is really so very encouraging to have even a little positive feedback from time to time. I minister in a church where I often do the services and when people say that I have said something that has touched them deeply in some way, it makes the world of difference to my enthusiasm for continuing on. Encouragement goes a long way further than criticism in acheiving a positive outcome. I do try hard myself to live to that but being human, well sometimes I opt for the negative. To be regretted later!!!

I know I am repeating myself, but I do so love this forum.
