    Default Pilates...ouch

I know some people might think its fun, but I find pilates very difficult. Pilates is a combination of stretches with working out. I don't know how athletic you might be womens-health, but I am not a very flexible person. I once bought a pilates video, and I didn't use it very much. Before spending money to join a pilates class, buy a $10 video first to see if you like it! I actually prefer the traditional exercises like running on a treadmill or doing crunches. Find what you like, stick to it, and you'll be in shape just in time for the summer pools and beaches!!!

    Thumbs up Ab workouts

Although some of you might be flexible and would like to try something like Pilates, you might also want to try specific target areas...like abs! I find 5 or 10 min ab video workouts extremely helpful! When working out with these videos on a reg basis, you will see results!! They are awesome!!! If any of you find one that you really like....let me know! I would actually like to try anew workout video!

    Default Pilates floor exercises

The best thing about pilates is you can get some major benifits from it without the high impact of treadmils and arobics and such. I have not been able to do high impact (such as jogging) for over 7yrs because of the pain it causes my lower back. But with Pilates I can get major benifit and not hurt my back. Yes, being flexible helps, but most of us are not. That is part of the workout, stretching muscles that do not get used to often. I do mine at night and sleep like a baby (parden the exprssion) after. Very relaxing, not stimulating!!

    Default pilates

Ok, so you ladies confinced me...lol. Today, I started those Windsor Pilates DVDs that I have had for a couple of years. I did the "buns & thighs" and the "abs" workout. I still find it kinda hard to stretch like they do on the DVD and I'm in my twenties and 130 pounds. I agree with Patricia...maybe it would be better to start with the basics DVD. I will try to do these DVS at least 3 times this week. I'll have to get back to you girls with some results. By the way, has anyone had successful result with the Atkin's diet???

    Default Winsor Pilates

I've just started doing my Pilates again. It is hard to begin with but it's not as hard as the last time I did them. Even if you don't lose weight, it certainly tightens things up. I'm in my forties and I've had friends and family mention that my butt seems higher. Not bad for a women with teenage children.

    Thumbs up pilates

I'm a college student and just started doing pilates. I'm completely inflexible and somewhat uncoordinated. HOWEVER, I love this class! I dont know how I'd fair if I had to do it all by video tape/dvd/whatever. If you get the chance, I highly recommend finding a fitness class, it's so much more motivating with an instructor there and seeing the other people in the class. Plus, there's incentive when you can feel yourself getting better at the moves.

    Default about Pilates

I just wanted to make a special mention about Pilates. Pilates is geared towards centering your body and mind with concentration and control. Don't think about Pilates as too difficult for you as you should only be doing what you can. If you hold one exercise or two of them you are doing great! Flexibility is NOT part of Pilates; yoga requires more flexibility.
When doing Pilates try to squeeze every part of your core tight (from your pubic bone to your collarbone. Don't rock your torso all over the place during and exercise, just try and keep it firm and planted in stable position.
If anyone has any questions about Pilates, I would be happy to answer them as I am a Certified Pilates Mat Instructor and Registered Massage Therapist now studying Osteopathy. Sometimes it's nicer to ask a person than have a computer answer back to you.
