Can't help genes. My Father has dark wavy hair, well did, and my Mother has straight blonde hair...

As, a result my hair is wavy underneath and straight on top with a kink, so I use a straightener, after brushing the wave as best as I can straight, when wet, with a hairdryer. Take the top part of your hair and clip it and work on the under part of your hair, when drying, then take another bit and do the same, leaving drying the top of your back left hand side till last.

I bet, though you can also scrunch it when drying and have waves on both sides like i can, if you want that more wilder non straight look.

Start experimenting with straighteners, you can even add "kinks" into your hair with one of those, so you have a few different strands happening.

It's normal.

Go to a good stylist. Not some discount salon or some neighborhood place with gum chewing, mediocore hair cutters. It will cost, but a good stylist can work wonders! Once you've gotten the cut a couple times and learned what you need to do you can find a competent, less expensive stylist to maintain it.

depending in how wavy it is,maybe you can get an stack in the back. or get something where you can do a feminine, soft spiky look in the back. or, u could grow it out and flat iron it. maybe your stylist can relax the one side of you back head if it really bothers you.
