Also, I forgot to mention, I've actually never blow dried my hair, lol. I would gently towel dry my long hair as it was drying, and when it was mostly dry I would use a soft brush. But that might be easier for me because my hair had never been dyed and is mostly straight.

Everyone has great advice! listen to them haha but as far as product goes - I recently started using 'Its a 10' and its THE BEST thing ive ever used on my hair. my mom owns a salon so i've definitely tried it all... but this stuff is seriously incredible. I still get split ends (not horrible) because i do blowdry my hair/curl it etc every time i wash it, but it definitely doesnt LOOK like I do. and the ends dont look dry and funky either. anyhow... its kind of expensive, but worth every penny.

so i used to work at a salon and I discovered there are hair talc things that come in the color of your hair that you can put on to stop your scalp getting oily. I never used them because I just didn't need to. But If I had hair that was sensitive to washing a lot or coloring and wanted an extra day not to wash my hair i would use it. It was a product by Bumble and Bumble but I'm sure other have it. I heard that stuff works really well.

Yes try not to blow dry as much as possible and take your vitamins.
attitude..it follows us around. It can be like a smelly sock or a sweet perfume. Others can tell. Be confident.

I've wanted long hair since I was a little kid but my mom would always chop it off... I was in sports, then went on accutane for a few painful years in college so my hair got really destroyed after that... so about 2 years ago I finally had a semi real job, had a bit of money, and decided to invest in getting long hair. Some things that I've found that have worked: getting a 'dusting' of a trim every 6-8 weeks, the therapro hair line (do an ebay search for it), not washing my hair daily - 2x weekly, rinse at most 3-4x weekly (have to because I exercise a lot and get sweaty), and more recently, Moroccan oil. It's now past the bottom of my shoulder blades, which is definitely a record for me, especially I suffered a big setback since my hair was destroyed a year ago when the hair salon I had been going to decided to roughly BLEACH my hair (without my permission and since I'd never done it before I had no idea what was going on)... still recovering from that a year later...

A few other considerations, do you straighten your hair, and if so, what kind of straightener do you use? I invested in a more high quality brand a year and a half ago and it has made a big difference (GHD hair straightener).

ALSO - your nutrition and/or the medicine you take plays a big role in the health of your hair. If you're not getting the vitamins and nutrients you need, your hair (and skin) will reflect that. Further, some medications damage your hair (such as accutane in my case, and perhaps other intensive acne pills as well), so take that into consideration.

Let us know what ends up working for you!

I have the same problem. I'm trying to grow my hair out now but despite frequent trims, I still get damage.

I switch up my conditioner and shampoo brands, and closely condition a second time everything but my roots. I do a hot oil treatment once a week now, and try to minimize blow drying; I dn't do any heat styling; when I do I use a heat protection spray...not sure if it does anything but worth a shot. I also cut back on dying it for a while.
