    Default cold sores!!!

UUGGHHH I hate them! I've been getting them since my early teens (when I started smoking and sharing with friends not suprisingly) So now I get them about twice a year, sometimes more.

Well my second ugly sore of the year popped up last night. I just feel so gross when I get them, I feel diseased and disgusting. I know they're common, but it's just so unsightly I want to cut my lips off and put them in my pocket to hide them lol

I sometimes use Lipactin and that helps to get rid of them faster, but I don't want to be using a bunch of checmicals and medications while i'm preggo...sucks eh?

Just needed to rant that's all....anyone care to join me?

Have you tried tea tree oil? My friend used to get them really bad and I know she put tea tree oil on them. She used some other essential oil as well, but I can't remember what it was. They may be able to help you at the health food store.

Ever since I started using Abreva (an ointment), they've become a LOT more manageable for me. Have you tried it?

Also, I usually get symptoms that warn me when a cold sore is about to pop up, so if I put that on my lips before I even see anything, it prevents it entirely.

I usually get a hint as well before one is going to pop up....and i usually just put some cream on the area and it prevents it from ever coming through

They are caused by a virus, taking L-lysine and cutting out chocolate and nuts should help.

Eventually most people's immune system supresses them. I'm currently getting them again because I've had health problems stressing my body and most likely my immune system. I had them all the time as a kid and frequently as a teenager but I don't think I've had a cold sore since early highschool so getting close to 10 years now.

Do not ingest tea tree oil. It is potentially quite toxic. In fact just applying it to the same area every day can damage nerves. It's way overused these days but it can help a wide variety of problems and I do keep a bottle of tea tree oil antibiotic cream around and a tea tree oil face toner to help get rid of acne. I just wouldn't apply it daily for too long and I would not use it anywhere you might ingest some. As kids we always just used plain table salt in water to as high of concentration as you can and keep it there as long as you can. I remember as a teenager just dumping straight salt on a couple and holding it there with my tongue while it burned. It hurt horribly but would feel much better afterward and start to go away the next day. Even mouthwash and toothpaste helps. The virus will spread by your saliva so keep everything clean and kill as much of the virus being shed as possible. Then try to boost your immune system with vitamins and keeping stress low.

Yes, cold sores are a result of a low immune system, and are mostly cause by stress and anxiety. My friend got them and she went to the doctor. He mentioned to her to take some natural antibiotics. She said she used garlic, and that really helped her. So maybe try some garlic.
