    Default Low Self Esteem

I'm 15, and 16 in like 3 days. And I'm really not happy with myself, and I just wanted to know how I can make myself be happy.
I'm 5'6 and a half, 140 pounds, I dye my hair red and I'm a size 14. I'm just not happy with my actual appearance so what can I do to make myself accept me?

What is it in yourself that you do not like? This is probably the key to making yourself 'accept you' because untill you either change it, or accept it, you will probably never be happy

To start accepting yourself , loving yourself you have to start focusing on what qualities about yourself you DO like...

Start with the inside. If you are caring, funny, trustworthy, loving, smart, a good friend, etc... remind yourself how valuable those types of qualities are and be proud of yourself or possessing them.

Then begin complimenting your outides. That cute nose, that smile that brightens up a room, your taste in clothes, your knee caps, whatever it is about your body or style or way you carry yourself that you like, find that, focus on that.

Don't beat yourself up over things you are born with. Don't sit in the mirror and push your nose in different angles and wish it was more like mary's or susies. Instead find the beauty in it.

Size 14 is the average body size for women. If you want to work on being fit, take up exercise and lay off junk food but at your age dieting isn't necessary. You are growing and your metabolism is crazy fast. Laying off the junk food and moving your body will suffice to get you in any shape you want.

Sports , dancing, anything like that can help build self-esteem while at the same time making you fit.

I have been skinny, shapely, chunky, morbidly obese and now fit. I have had issues with low self esteem at every single size. Never think that you can improve how you feel about yourself by changing yourself. It never does the trick. You have to find a way to love yourself in every shape and form, incarnation , or hairstyle that you wear.

When you love yourself, its much easier for other people to love you because it puts a light in your eyes that shines and warms up a room.

You sound like a healthy attractive young lady from your description. Don't compare yourself to girls on laguna beach or seventeen magazine covers.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

    why not?

is it a height/weight issue? you sound like you have a healthy height and weight.

or is it something else that is bothering you?

when i feel down i tend to focus on the weight thing, when in fact it really has to do with what's going on in my mind. took a long time to figure out I was focusing on the outside and not dealing with what was wrong on the inside.

Good advice in the posts above

If you want to be happy can I suggest:

List 5 things you like about yourself or are good at

Me for example (this is hard but you can do it. It can be harder to see your good side)
    Intelligent
    Riding Motor Bikes
    Talking to people
    Likeable
    Good Job

List a few things you would like to improve (be realistic) What I intend to do

    Me for example
Bit over weight - Go to the gym once or twice a week and cut my drinking down
Hate my job - Get some extra qualifications and look for jobs
Unhappy - Set makeself some achievable goals for the year See New Years Resolution Thread
Single - Become happy, Change Job, Lose weight, Learn to dance enjoy life and not worry about it as if your happy you can be happy and single

Smile (even if you have to force it) as much as you can smiling affects the way you feel and can actually make you feel better

Try to put a positive swing on life

Resite the good things about yourself every day to affirm you are a good person

Achieve some realistic goals over the year

Only have goals for things you want not things you think you should do
