Exclamation What colours to wear for a wedding.......

    Hello lovelies!

two of my friends are getting married soon - and i havent bought an outfit yet as im slightly confused as to what to wear colourwise. Sounds a bit odd a i know!

I saw this lovely black and white dress, but my sister said it wasnt appropriate because it was more black then white. She said that you should avoid wearing anything black - although a lot of dresses i have fallen in love with have been black, or have black on them.

Is it best to avoid black altogether? first wedding i have been too - dont want to dress as if im going to a funeral (as my sister told me!)

    thank you in advance! xxx

I think customarily.... People generally don't wear black to a wedding, because again, customarily, you wear black to a funeral. But, I don't know, I'm kind of anti 'don't do it because it's been done this way for centuries.' (if that makes sense) When my BIL got married on the beach, I feel in love with this black maxi dress that I ended up wearing and it was fine especially when I got there and the mother of the bride was wearing a black dress too.

You can also take into consideration the time of day of the wedding. Evening, generally okay for darker colors. Daytime, maybe go with something lighter.

I've always just had the rule of "DON'T WEAR WHITE!" A outfit with white accents is okay, but a white dress is a big fat no-no.

I think black is fine... I've been to 2 weddings in the last 2 weeks and there are more women wearing black dresses than anything else, and they all looked great. It's classy, its elegant, its in style, and best of all it can be livened up with some fun, colorful accessories. Black doesn't have to be somber, it can be fun with the right embellishments (a pair of pink heels, some chunky gold jewerly, a trendy wrap belt, you get the idea...)

i think its ok to wear a combination of black and white, just dont forget to add up some accesories to it like pearl earings, necklace, etc.
KMonte is right, it's not good to wear white in a wedding...not a good idea.

I think a black dress is fine. As long as you look nice and are having fun, it shouldn't matter. Spice it up with a bright flower hair clip or a colorful necklace and shoes or something.

An elegant black dress with the right accesories and right make up wont go wrong. A silver stilleto, pearl earrings and necklace plus a silver handbag would just be enough accesory.
