I was thinking today about Chandlers Wish and where i actually came up with that name?
It made me then think about what my father wanted to call me and what my mother called me and what name as i grew older, i would have loved. So, i thought i'd ask how many of you now, would have liked to have had a different name and what that name would be. Chandlers Wish simply came from watching "Friends" which i laugh at, which is me, always laughing, and "Wish", because i have so many new dreams now... My name, ahh of course i won't reveal but at the time, was pretty non - existant now there are quite a few. But my Father wanted to call me "VENISE" after looking at vension blinds, well that's different!! As i grew older, i liked the European feel, and fell for "CARTCHIER" in the pronounciation, probably spelt as CARTIER, Michaela i also liked. I am not sure about Peaches, and Apple, lol. |

My "real" name is constantly on the "most popular baby girl names" lists. It's one of those "normal, Christian" names. My sister's name's Virginia ... brother's Daniel ... Daddy had a thing for "normal" names.
And I don't like my name. When people call me it, I get nervous ... except for the boyfriend; he gets special dispensation as one of the people closest to me. So I found myself a little nickname that doesn't let anybody guess my real name, even though tricksy me can trace it back. There are certain joys to knowing even tiny tidbits of other languages ... but apparently my nickname is a men's name in Mexico and the Phillipines. And I can't figure out what it "means!" Boo. Upon googling the nickname, I found an African singer who shares it and says it means "strong," and close to the words "laugh" and "risk" in other languages. So ... I guess I'm a strong, risky laugh. It fits, right? I'd never change it to my "real" name, though. It gives me an interesting psychological duality ... I can make someone feel like a friend or keep them "out" of my circle depending what name I give them upon first meeting. But for here I'll stick with "Little." It doesn't fit me, but it's an old MB nick of mine. |

I have two names: the name that appears on my birth certificate, which I use at work and on important documents; and a sort of 'nickname' that is not official but is used by my relatives. Many of them think the nickname is my given name. A few years ago, a friend told me that before I was born, my parents had chosen my given name, but they had a neighbour who liked another name...the name that is my nickname. After I was born, this neighbour called me by the name that she liked and my parents did the same. I grew up being called one name all day in school and a different name at home and with family. I joke that that's why I'm so confused as an adult. For many years, I was ashamed of my given name, until I met the man who became my husband. He kept telling me how beautiful it is and I grew to believe it.

Actually Little, i did that to, and found my name to mean warrior and yep i can relate to that one.
I also abbreviate mine now, i like it better. But what was funny, is the nicknames now that you mention it when i was younger from the family. Gee, a few freckles so you get called freckles or freck, have none now, or worse your darling grandmother calls you "Fanny" and well you try to explain to her that you don't really like that name....lol.... |

its funny. I have always wanted to change my name because its so typical and common but yet very much mispronounced.....not to mention all 3 of my initials are the same......SSS (talk about imagination on my parents part). i dont care about telling people my name here so its Simone Samantha S. now my question is why do people pronounce Simone as Simon.......i mean there is an E at the end for a reason and I live in a big city (so there is no confusion that it is french). so that has always annoyed me

My name is Audrey. I've always loved that name honestly, however my middle name, the name which my parents call me by I hate "Sarah". In Guatemala no one can pronounce my name "audrey" it's been so hard that my husband calls me by one of my nicknames: "Fiona".
I don't have any desire to change my name... however I was at naming my daughter. I searched forever trying to find a name that wouldn't be teased and was original! Novali Cristyna. However, I found out after I had the name on the birth certicificate that "No vale" means 'it doesn't count' So... kids in school will tease her I like another name too, that had I known about the no vale thing I would have named her Adalis Elena. So my daughter will probably want to change her name some day....
