Now I think the only hard time I have is when I am out with friends who smoke or around my parents who both smoke. I havn't been smoke free for very long only two months but I hope it lasts.
This is very true. Same when I quit.

A few tips that helped me:
1: Stay away from cigarettes and people who smoke. Only go out to places that don't allow smoking.

2: Stay busy. Identify the times of day that you are smoking and what you are doing at those times. If you always go out on the porch and have a smoke with your morning coffee and newspaper, try having your coffee inside or take a go cup with you and go for a walk instead.

    3. Try cutting out that first smoke of the day, that seems to be the one that kicks off the cravings for the rest of the day. If you have your first one at 9 am, try to wait until 11 am. Then keep pushing that time back. Same with the last one of the day.

    4. Exercise, exercise, exercise. It keeps you busy, takes up time that you can't be smoking. And if you find something you enjoy then smoking will make that activity harder and hopefully you'll think twice before lighting up.

    Good luck to you all!

Thanks. I have not heard of this?

Have heard of Zyban and tried that, "tablets" and nearly killed myself true, it was the worse thing i have ever done, talk about shaking, anxiety, moods...

If you can find out more about this from your sister, that would be great to hear about it.

    Thanks again.

CW, how about starting by making a promise that you will only smoke outdoors from now on?
Start by cleaning everything, the drapes, shampoo the rugs and furniture, wash the walls...etc. Get the smell out as much as possible.
Then limit yourself to outside smoking only. That way having a smoke will be a hassle and you'll really notice the smell after you come in. And you have to stop what you are doing and make a conscious decision to go smoke, this will make you think about whether or not it's really worth going out and having one.
That was a big thing for me, once I decided that smoking was gross, the smell drove me crazy.

A friend of mine who has tried to give up smoking for years used acupuncture and has now not smoked since before christmas.

Another friend just read a book on giving up smoking. I will find out the name for you. You are meant to keep smoking until you have read the final page. It did take her almost a month to read it though as she was putting off taking the plunge, but this is like preparing and starting to grieve the loss I guess. She hasn't smoked now for a few weeks, fingers crossed.

I think it would help to make a mental shift from what you are giving up to what you are gaining. There is a whole psych theory about this (cognitive / behavioural therapy) it is about changing your thoughts about a behaviour to change that behaviour. Focus on the health you want, the way you want to smell etc. Join the gym or start exercising more, eat healthier, so that the whole focus can be on health and fitness not 'giving up smoking'.

Another friend associates smoking with drinking. She mainly smoked when she was having a drink so she gave up drinking completely for a few weeks to get over this hurdle.

You can do it. I have read many of your posts and you are a very possitive person, quite inspirational infact. You can also be an inspiration for others in this journey too.

I know it is hard, Good Luck.

Thanks talk time for your faith as well as encouragement, sometimes it's great to hear someone say, i know your pshyc you can...

I think the book was "the little book of quitting?" I am going to buy it again. I did use it and stopped for 3 months until my darling ex-husband gave me the shirts, hehe.

You reminded me on how the "little monster" must be killed, and how clever that book was...

    Yeah, I can do it.

    Your right, all of you....

It's not like i'm giving up sex... Oh, I've done that to, bugger, well only until i find him...

I wrote this thread at least 3 months ago, all of a sudden your all telling me how, strange how the Universe works when you need it ...

Keep it up! You've taken some major first steps and thats good.
They say it takes quitting a few times before you quit for good so it is encouraging that you've stopped for 3 months time prior to this time.

    Keep that ashtray outside.
