A couple days after my period my nipples started to ... ache. (it's hard to explain) they have stayed semi-hard and hard all the time except an hour or so after i wake up. They only feel better when i have constant pressure applied, i can hardly walk around with my hands clamped down on them all day, and trying to fall asleep is a nightmare.

Are you on birth control? Have you had your nipples pierced before? Possible ideas could be Mastitis (infection of the breast) or I HATE SAYING THIS but cancer. Are you getting any discharge? If so, there are hella possibilities beyond cancer etc.

Being both nipples and a couple days after your period argues against cancer. Get a copy of the book, The Woman's Advantage Diet, by Dr Henry Mallek. It teaches you to use diet related to the changing hormone levels in your body through out your cycle. In addition to weight control (works great by the way) it helps you regulate MPS and other hormone related conditions. Immediately post menstural you should be eating lots of fruits and veggies, you are low in both estrogen and progesterone then. It won't hurt you and might help, so give it a try.

Foods are chemicals and they do affect our bodies. What you are eating during your period or right after could have an affect. Another thing to look at as Aithenu suggested is a reaction to your b/c or anything that you have changed in past couple months. Even if you've been taking something for some time you can develop a reaction any time.

A good sports bra may help provide some immediate relief since they do squish your breasts in. Are you experiencing any nipple discharge? I used to get a tiny bit of colosterum when I was in my 20s and it was accompanied by some nipple sensitivity, the docs did a smear and said no big deal. You can toughen them up a bit just as you have to do preparing to nurse a baby. Just rubbing, pinching, squeezing, having them played with or sucked on. If you have a man in your life they don't usually have a problem helping out with that.
