I AM SO TIRED OF BEING SOOOOOO TIRED!!! here's the deal: i can't fall asleep! it seriously takes me any where from an hour to an hour and a half to fall asleep.

i usually wake up at least once during the night, but i go through like these periods for a week or more at a time where i am waking up any where from 3 to 5 times a night. i just can't get good rest.

i know that if you exercies it gives you more energy throughout the day, and i do exercise, but i am still so darn tired.

i'm not real keen on taking medications. i will if i have to but i prefer not to. i don;'t want to take sleeping pills cuz you can become reliant on them. don't want that.

does any body know any tips for FALLING and STAYING asleep?? i just want to get a good nights rest once in a while! i;ve heard that certain teas can help. does any one know of any other tips? am i doomed to the "zombie syndrome"???? lol

Chamomile tea. I prefer the Mexican version (I don't know why; it just tastes better) so if you don't like the American Chamomile teas, hit up your local Mexican grocery and look for "Té de Manzanilla."
Do you have a nighttime routine? How long before bed do you shut off the tv, shut off the computer, and dim the lights? Do you have blackout curtains in your room? Give your body some clues that it's nighttime; time to go to bed. Try reading for half an hour before you go to bed, or try stretching. Exercise certainly does help during the day, but don't do it right before bed.
For staying asleep, turn off your phone or put it on silent/alarm only. Even having it on vibrate will wake me up; I'm sensitive to the sound.
If none of these help, you might need some medication to optimize your sleep, but try them out. Sometimes a change in routine is all it takes.

Turn all heavy stimulators off about an hour to 2 hours before you plan on sleeping.. the longer the better but one hour minimal. And what I mean by heavy stimulators are: No computer,or Video games. Reading is okay. Some people need silence to sleep, but if you aren't falling asleep try a little white noise in the background, I find this helps keeps those thoughts that creep up, worries etc.. to be less noticable.

You say your tired? Are you emotionally tired or physically tired because there is a difference!

Then you say you can't fall asleep???? If its your thoughts are the cause of you staying awake I suggest you listen to some hypnotizing cds or try meditating.. You need to bring peace to your mind... Look for them at your local CD store... They kick but! Honestly!

If your physically tired then Stop sleeping during the day as they can really screw up your internal clock! Or exercise more...

I am really against any pharmaceutical drug... I believe your body and mind will take care of any problem that is brought to you. However, there are exceptions.

As a previous poster mentioned try setting a mood of peace it normally should take 15min for a person to fall asleep.

Stop worrying about falling asleep because it will cause you to not fall asleep haha

    Hope this helps

haha, I love that one, so true.

    Rooooo..... Do you read?

What's your mind doing? Are you constantly still thinking, thinking, thinking, whilst you are trying to sleep?

I often will start reading and my eyes decide that they neeeedddd toooo clllooosse and so they do.

Sounds like your mind is very active and what the posters have suggested is great, because you need to un-wind before you sleep... relax.. and think of nothing really..

yeah. my mind is constantly bonbarded with thoughts twenty four seven. its just how my mind works. and its always like that before i go to bed, or rather while i am laying there. i just can't make them stop. i have tried relaxing music, but i tended to listen to the music instead of it helping me to sleep.....sigh.......

i think its both honestly....i am physically tired, but i am also very emotionally tired. i've been having some really down days lately....well, for nearly a year now. that could be it, now that i think of it. i don't know how to make those go away though.

Usually it doesn't take me more than 5 mins to get to sleep. But sometimes my brain does go into overdrive, when that happens I find writing helpful and talking to my mind. I literally tell it outloud, "Time to stop now, I need to sleep" Then I will give it one or two things to work on while I'm sleeping and tell it I expect an answer in the morning. This is a great problem solving technique. I always get an answer.

Another technique is to lay down, get comfy, lights out and start creating a dream even though you are awake.

Now, how do I usually fall asleep so fast? I learned years ago to consciously breathe the way I do when sleeping. Doing this pretty much tricks your body (or trains) it to sleep.

I have told my mind, literally outloud, to stop thinking, and it will work for a few minutes. i will start to relax, but then my mind is overridden with thoughts again. its not really that all my thoughts are like worried thoughts or anything like that, not most of the time. i just think about everything taht went on during the day.

interesting..........i think i have done things like that, not with the purpose of falling asleep though, and i think it did help me. i don't know, i will certainly give that one a shot as well.

i try that, and again, it will work for a little bit, up until all the thoughts come racing in again.

i tried the tea last night, but it didn't really work. i think i fell asleep in under an hour though. it was close. i still woke up twice. grrrrr but im gonna keep trying it, and some of the other techiniques.

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!

That is why I recommend hypnotic music.. It puts you into a trance lowering your brain activity.. It will work..

If your listening to an upbeat kind of must then its not really the relaxing and soothing you need for you to fall asleep.

Your emotions are a clear sign of what your body is trying to tell you... Listen to it...

I guarantee this is your problem!!!

You need to stop falling asleep during the day! For at least a week to allow your internal clock to reset itself.
