Hi there! I'm really at my wit's end as far as my health goes and thought I'd post here to get your advice. My doctor has tested me for all kinds of things but nothing has shown up. A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome as I am constantly feeling tired and unmotivated. My symptoms are as follows: tiredness, aching muscles (esp after any form of exercise), often have sore throat, heat sensitivity, current bouts of herpes (genital and oral), constant sinus problems. I have a baby who is 8months old and whilst pregnant I experienced the worst case of mouth herpes EVER (came up all around my upper lip and on skin above upper lip) - had a repeat episode just after baby was born and twice since, am experiencing another episode of this presently. Am VERY frustrated, especially about the lip condition and the constant fatigue. ANy advice? I'm desperate. Not depressed though, just to mention that just in case.

There are a number of herpes type viruses and I assume that what works with one will work with all. Viruses replicate in your cells, they can't reproduce on their own. There are amino acids that promote or facilitate the replication and some that inhibit them. Take chocolate and nuts out of your diet - they are high an amino acid that helps the virus reproduce. Start taking L Lysine. You want to have at least 100 mg per 30 lbs of body weight, a couple times a day. This isn't a cure but may help lessen the severity and help prevent future outbreaks. Maybe see a holistic heath care doctor?

Thanks for replying Wildchild. I already take L-Lysine - 1000g per day. But I have to admit that I am a bit of a chocaholic so really must make an effort to eliminate that from my diet. I barely go two days without a bit of chocolate. I went to my GP about it today and she seemed convinced it was herpes although it is representing differently to what I used to get. When I was pregnant and first had it my obstetrician said it was eczma and to treat it just with vaseline, but a GP said herpes at the time - very confusing. I have an appointment with a naturopath on Monday so will see what he has to say. I am prepared to change diet if necessary and will be starting to wean bub off breast shortly as plan to have him fully weaned by 12months (in June). Was going to wait until he was 12 months to wean but am having too many health issues like fatigue, sore throats, this lip thing, plus many bouts of mastitis. But also after having weaned him, if I get any more bouts of this herpes will get doc to put me on acycilovir (or however it's spelt) tablets. I was thinking also of giving Chinese medicine a go and acupuncture. Has anyone out there experienced good things with this and had it help in any way? Please do share with me. Thanks again for taking the time to respond to me WildChild. It's greatly appreciated.

I wish there was a cure for Cronic Fatigue, it seems even the more sleep you get doesn't work..

I bordered it when I had fybromyalgia, and myophasical pain, which is simular and basically it is a slow process to know your limitations , usually stress related and required alot of mind over matter, alot.

Start walking even though your tired, even for 5 minutes a day and even if it's around your actual house 10 times, and start increasing it... Drink lots of water and know your limitations of what seems to stress you, therefore makes you even more tired..

I do believe that stress is a cause of most problems in life with our bodies.

Medicate, start a hobby slowly of something you really like, it will take some time but tablets etc aren't totally the answer if at all...

It's you getting your mind around wanting to be so happy and not allowing it to get to you and working those thoughts over and over.

    Good luck.

Thanks for sharing Chandlers Wish. Did you ever get diagnosed with the Eppstein-Barr virus? I had it about 3 years ago (glandular fever or kissing disease) and apparently that can trigger chronic fatigue syndrome. Ever since I had that I constantly feel tired and am always coming down with sore throats and herpes (oral and genital unfortunately). I feel like I'm fighting a downhill battle and get quite depressed about it at times. I keep plodding along but I remember how alive and full of energy I used to be years ago. Yes - if only there was an instant cure. I have tried very hard to be positive and to try to change my thinking but hasn't seemed to work yet. Maybe this naturopath might give me some answers on Monday. Have you been to a naturopath yourself? I have heard that acupuncture is meant to be good for chronic fatigue sufferers and hydrotherapy as well. Have you tried either of these? Thanks again.

I have a Naturopathic physician whom I've seen on and off for years. I've been healthy enough in recent years that I haven't seen her for a long time. Mine helped was a tremendous help and saved my life on at least one occasion. They do work differently, expect a long visit for the first consultation and be prepared to give a detailed history. Naturopathic healing works with the understanding that the entire person must be looked at because everything is inter-related, for example your fatigue cannot be treated separately from your herpes, they are both indicators of a body and life out of balance. In one case my diagnosis was to either get marriage counseling or a divorce - she was right on target, the stress of a toxic relationship was literally destroying my health. I didn't need drugs or meds, I needed to change my life! Most of the members of my immediate family see a natural healer.

I have used hydrotherapy very effectively in some instances. I have found, The Complete Book of Water Healing, very helpful on this subject. One form of hydrotherapy you may find helpful to relieve some of your symptoms is hot and cold water changes. This relieves skin irritation and itching and jumps up the immune system. Get in the shower start with warm water then adjust it as hot as you can take without harming your skin, tune under this to get all your body, then switch to entirely cold water and again turn under the water to get all your body. Do 13 water temp changes. Once you get into it, it feels amazing! The gasp of air when the cold water hits you fills your lungs and gets your heart rate up to energize you. My neighbor had awful hives that weren't responding to drugs, in f act the drugs were making her ill and she had to stop them. I recommended this as something that wouldn't hurt and might help. She reported immediate relief after one session and the hives vanished in less than 24 hours.

My personal standard is if it won't hurt and might help - I'll try it.
    Good luck with all this.

Thanks wildchild. I am definitely going to give that shower thingy a try. How long do you have to stay under each diff. temp and how long in shower altogether do you thing? I'll definitely give anything a go. Any other hydrotherapy ideas or other things you have tried or heard of? Thanks again.

I got out the book to double check this therapy. There are two types of alternating temp showers; equal hot and cold or the unequal, longer hot, shorter cold (also called a Scots shower)
The equal is for muscular rheumatism, stiff joints (w/o nerve inflamation) and enlargement of the liver. That's just 15 seconds hot, 15 seconds cold with at least a dozen changes.

The unequal is for muscle fatigue, lack of energy, profuse or frequent sweating, or can be used on specific areas for, poor circulation, back ache, uterine and ovarian neuralgia, and gastric ulcer.

I've used this for hives and other skin reactions and to jump start my immune system when I feel 'something' coming on. I found it helpful when I had Colo tick fever too.
Use the hot spray(100 to 104 degrees F) for 1 to 4 minutes. Follow immediately with cold spray for 5 to 30 seconds (Cold not luke) The cold used for 10 seconds or less increases circulation but can be sedating (calming). COld used for 10 to 30 seconds stimulates and makes the body feel toned.

Other sources I've read had recomended at least 13 water changes, always ending with cold. I like to start with the hot to know just where I want the water controls for the right temp, then start counting with the first cold water application. This is actually kind of fun, the warm water feels so good and then you get hit with that cold and it just zings you into alterness, then back to all lovely and warm but you get to anticipating the cold jolt because it makes you feel so alive! I like to always get it on my scalp as well as body. For me it just seems to have more effect.

We camped a lot when I was young and as a teen I would go with a group of freinds. We'd have several tents and I was usually one of the first up. There was a mountain stream close by and I would slip out of my jeans and wade into (it was ankle deep) and rinse my face and neck. Those streams come right off the glaciers (rapidly vanishing) and they give new meaning to cold. It was so invigorating! Then I'd scamper out and unbank the fire to warm up.
