Well you might live a long time in misery and pain gasping for breath, on an oxygen tank (my grandmother went through this) or get throat or mouth cancer, both very unpleasant.
It's true we will each leave this life cycle sometime, why not be as healthy and feeling good as poosible, until that time comes. It isn't the length of time that courts so much as the quality.
