Hi sally i had a similar problem last year which was due to a trapped nerve ,my doctor recommended wearing a neck brace and although i did not like wearing it my neck muscles and nerves relaxed curring the pain , i know how much it hurts so i think a doctors visit may help , hope you feel better soon . Go to your Dr. The pads between the vertibrae wear out so bone rests on bone. A neckbrace sounds good.

I firmly believe in them - if you find a good one. Mine was/is an Upper Cervical Chiropractor.
My (13y/o at the time) son had a bad curve in the back of his neck - I assumed that it was from birth and then the Dr. said it was probably that because of what/where she saw in the x-ray. Within 6 months she had him all straightened out - beautiful. I'd had back pain pretty bad all those years as well and she helped me. I am better. Medical Drs will not refer you to a chiropractor - I don't understand this as our spinal alignment can so greatly affect so many things. Anyway just an idea for you.
