Some tips and tricks I use, some I've heard about and put into practice, some I've worked out on my own when I battle occasional bouts of insomnia, the seem to help :

    _________________

    The no-no's

No computer or TV or Video games a few hours before bed. (those send up "wake-up" calls to your brain)

No eating a couple hours before bed (give it time to digest so that isn't stirring in you).

Nothing with caffeine after 2pm... earlier if your insomnia is severe enough.

No napping when you get home from work -- let yourself be tired enough so that you fall asleep at a good time.

    ________

    The Do's

Do keep your room cool (heat will make you uncomfortable, and hard to sleep)

Do keep your room dark (light won't let you get restful sleep)

Do exercise daily (even just a brisk walk in the morning or evening will help a lot)

Do keep your clock turned around, watching it... seeing how late its becoming can cause anxiety ("oh no, now its 1am... now I will only get 4 hours of sleep ughhhh come on sleep sleep sleep")
    ____________

    The try to's:

Try not to worry about relationship issues, financial issues, friend problems anything that might cause your thoughts to go into overdrive.

Try to close your eyes and daydream, fantasize (not sexual... unless you want to lol) but just imagine pretty things, happy memories... future trips etc... things that are relaxing.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.
