I have been smoking since I was 17 years old (about 6 years). I have quit once before - right after I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I threw half a pack of cigarettes away and didn't care, quit cold turkey and was fine...Until I started back to college full time when she was 3 months old as an architecture major.
My boyfriend of 3 years quit smoking about 6 weeks ago and I have been trying to on and off for about 2.5 months. For the last week or so I've been using Nicorette gum. It works somewhat but I don't think it's very effective. If you've ever used it you have to chew it a certain way, it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth, you can't eat or drink while you chew it and it takes about a half hour per piece. It's more work to use the Nicorette to quit than it is to just have a cigarette.
I've also been having a hard time because I wake up angry in the morning, I'm angry throughout the day, or I'm crying my eyes out because of the anxious feeling I have when I feel the need to have a cigarette. It's a panic feeling - heart in my throat, heart beating faster and harder, lack of focus, difficulty concentrating on anything. I just want to be mad or cry all day - all I'm good for is crawling back into bed so I can sleep and not feel like poop all day. This is impossible - I'm a full time mom and full time college student.
You had a reason the first time and love inside for your bubs and it was just easy.
This time, you started College full time, with bubs and boyfriend if he doesn't live with you comes over, eats, etc...
STRESS
STRESS
STRESS
And, obviously all the while he was smoking so when that occured, the STRESS, you keep seeing that little monster as an angel..
How do I know? Same problem as you and I have given up before as well, have the same problems your having now as I try..
You know the real cravings only last two days so do I haha.. You also know that it's only 2 weeks and then you are fine and now he doesn't smoke and a few months and you'll forget again.
So, we can't blame the word STRESS, but stress is still a trigger in the brain as lighting up is.
So, we have to find a new reason to do it?
What's yours going to be and I'll find one too and then we'll post here together, seriously.
