I have been getting this pain in my hip for the last 3 months and as we do, i have ignored it, thinking it will get better. But i was wrong of course and it is growing worse.
It is fine during the day, but as soon as the sun goes down or it gets cold or rains, my hip aches. Now it's been bearable, but today i am sitting on the couch with a hot water bottle on my hip. It hurts to walk as it feels as though something is pulling on it. When i get into bed at night, it clicks often but that doesnt hurt.
I do exercise most days, i walk for an hour and do yoga only once a week.
My brother as a child suffered with Perthes disease (think i spelt it right) and he is now 24. The doctors said by the time he turned 25, he'd need a hip replacement. I thought perhaps my own hip pain was just sympathy for my brother but, his hip is fine at the moment.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what it could be?
As a child I suffered from hip dysplasia, and I often have similar pains in my hips (almost monthly). Although this doesn't help you with the cause of your problem, maybe I can offer some advice for the pain. First, position really helps. I've noticed that it's most helpful to lay in bed in an almost seated position (supported with pillows) with my hips in a completely horizontal position. (almost like you're sitting in the top part of a chair) That tends to alleviate the pain while my hips are hurting. In between these times, I sleep with a heating pad on my hip every night. For me, it cuts down how often they really hurt. Hope that helps!
