Recurring absesses?
A friend of mine keeps getting these strange absesses in her arm pits. I have had to take her to the doctor twice now to get them cut open. I think she has also gone two other times on her own to get them cut open. Does anyone know why she would keep getting these things??

abscesses
My 17 year old has the same problem as your friend. We are trying to find out what is causing this and how to prevent it. So far, we've been to the er 4 times to have them lanced/drained/packed. It makes her feel very sick and weak. Out of 6 doctors including her pediatrician, none can give us very much information -- they don't seem to know. Our next stop is a dermatologist. Other than these abscesses, her skin is perfect.

Absesses
i have had them to, near the groin area. my doctor said that they were actually MRSA- the staff infection that is resistant to most antibiotics. You should def. get tested for MRSA to make sure it isnt that. They can do a culture of the infected area.

I have had only one other besides the one i have currently. My aunt who is a doctor gets patients in all the time with them. Why most abscesses occur is because its usually in areas where there is hair and in begins as a ingrown hair and then develops into a abscess or boil as they are also known as. This is what has caused my first one and the one I currently have. While I hope this helps.

May 2008 "Poster of the Month"
My friend had one in his armpit, it's more common than people would think - just nobody ever tells people about them. I had a really big one develop on the back of my neck. Over about 5 months it went from what I thought was a deep spot to the size of a golf ball pretty much - it was ridiculous. They sliced it open in the end under general anaesthic, but I've got a bit of a ******* of a scar, makes me not want to cut my hair. If ever I feel a spot on the back of my neck I get worried it might happen again, but hasn't yet - fingers crossed.
I sympathize with those of you for who this is more of a regularity. As for how to beat it, I'd suppose work on your diet (always the answer), think of any products you might be using in those areas... OH! In fact, at one point me and my gf got little lumps in our armpits, she had a few, then I got one... We figured out it was because we were sharing a shower scrub/shower gel, we stopped using it and none came again - so definately have a house clearing of all those products, just to check. I'm not sure if a dermatolagist can help, aren't they under the skin? Don't really know about that though.

Absesses
Me & my husband get them all the time. My husband has one right now on the back of his neck and it's very very painful. I put hot compresses on his neck everyday to make the absess come to a head, but because he is diabetic, I believe it takes much longer for him to heal. I get them all the time all over my body. I think the person who said it's something we are putting into our bodies is correct. I know some needle users and they get severe absesses that require surgury. Some are life threatening. The needle users are usually injecting heroin and/or cocaine into their bodies. The toxins in the drugs/bacteria needs to come out of the body, so it forms into an absess, to be lanced, squeezed, and getting rid of. I really believe that these absesses are some type of different toxins in our bodies that need to come out, on way or another. The best way to keep from going to the doctor's all the time is to put hot compresses (wash cloth) over the boil/absess for as long as you can (20 min. at a time), about 2-3 times a day if you can. The absess should come to a head within a week or so, and you should be able so pop and/or squeez the puss out. Be very careful because the puss is toxic and can spread to another part of the body and/or another person. Wear gloves & use antibacterial toner/liquid to clean the absess. Put neosporin or another type of antibiotic cream and cover it well. If it seems real red, and is not getting better in 2 days of the head breaking...see a doctor. It could be the "superbug" MSRA. May God be with you all!!

absesses
I have been getting these absesses under my arms for the past 9ish months, i have been hospitalised once and had about 15 of these lumps in total... i was advised by a friend of my mothers who also gets these lumps to ask my doctor for magnapen, i generally am given a two week course of these antibiotics, these tablets reduce the size of the absesses, and make them less painfull if taken when a lump first appears. One of the names for the condition is hidradenitis suppurativa.

Hi there.
I am 25 years old and have started getting abcesses/lumps under one of my arms. It started out as an itch that I went to the doctors for. They told me it was a fungal infection and prescribed me several different types of creams, had me bathe in antiseptic wash and even put a wash through with my clothes. It would go away for awhile and then come back again. This started in June 07. About six month ago in my left arm pit I started getting swellings. I have been prescribed antibiotics now for three swellings, luckily they have all been caught before they needed to be lanced. Its driving me crazy though! I no longer use soap or bodywash only an antibacterial body wash, I no longer use spray on deoderant- only gentle roll on. I only shave my armpits on very rare occasions now and apply an antibacterial cream afterwards, but nothing seems to help. I have excellent personal hygiene and a clean home (thought I would add that in because one of the doctors had the balls to tell me that I needed to shower everyday, which I of course do!) All my blood tests have come back normal. My husband and I want to start trying for our second child, but I can't see how it would be any good for a baby if I was on antibiotics every couple of months! Help!
