Frequent urination?
I also would like to know if there is something I can do about having to get up 4 or 5 times times a night to pee? I feel like I don't get good sleep because I always have to keep getting up. Is it normal to have to get up that many time? Are there any options other then medication? I don't like medication.

Hi Sweet & Sour!
You said in your post about leg cramps that you are 75 years old and you don't like taking medications. Are you currently taking any medications? Does this mean you have no current health problems? Let me ask you before you go to bed are you drinking a lot? Do you drink about during the day? I have some thoughts but would like you to provide alittle more information as stated above.

Thanks! No, I do not take any medications. I am deathly afraid of medications because of side effects and liver damage. A lot of them upset my stomach too. I just think it's unhealthy to take all kinds of medications. The only thing I ever take is aspirin and tums.
I am healthy except for these pains and some occasional back pains. I had back surgery when I was 37 so my back hurts some times. I still work to keep busy. I am a cashier at K-Mart.
I do drink a lot during the day and before bed, but it's Gatoraid. I was told by someone that Gatoraid might help the cramping in my legs. Something about potassium... I think? I suppose I just answered my own question?? Haha. Drinking too much liquids? But what can you do, aren't you supposed to get 8 glasses a day anyway? I just can't win.

Yes I try too to stay away from medications as much as possible. I think you hit the nail on the head about the leg cramps being from a loss of potassium. Try eating some foods rich in potassium like bananas, plain yogart, broccoli, asparagus, black-eyed peas, spinach, oranges and there are also many others. Cranberry juice is also high in potassium and helps with keeping the urinary tract healthy. I have a friend who is a pharmacist and he does not recommend taking any over the counter substitutes for potassium due to the affects they can have on your heart. I would try eating foods rich in potassium and if this does not help with the leg cramps I would recommend seeing a doctor. As far as having increased urination, I would try not to drink anything two hours prior to going to bed and see if this helps. Some times as we get older we just have more frequent urination. As long as you don't have any other symptoms like burning with urination, difficulty urinating, pain with urination or any type incontinence then I would try not drinking to close to bedtime. If your experiencing any of the above symptoms then again I would recommend a doctor. I hope some of this information has helped.

I just happened to come across this post on frequent urination. I would like to suggest one thing. Work on your Kegal Muscles. These are the muscles inside the vagina. When you are sitting pull them in and out like you are squeezing a ball. You may find that this stimulates you sexually which is a kick in itself, but also you will be building up the power to control the inner vaginal muscles. If you are sexual and do this when your man is inside you, it is quite a trip for him. You are sexually grabbing his penis and holding on.....I don't have this problem with urination but I have heard somewhere that this may help women who do.....
Much luck and it is so nice to know that someone else in the "older younger age span" is on the Forum....TC, C
