    Default Frequent urination before bed

I'm 18 and for the past few months (probably longer..) I have been experiencing frequent urination right before bedtime. During the day I urinate probably just a bit more than normal, but I find that right before I go to bed I will have to go to the bathroom no less than 8 times. It's not always a full bladder, it can be just the tiniest bit of urination, but I can feel it and I cannot sleep until my bladder is empty. I have been on birth control steadily for about a year, however last month I lost my pack a week early and since then decided not to go back on the pill. I'm wondering if my use of the BCP may be causing this or it's something far more worse. My mind keeps wandering and I'm thinking the worse. I appreciate any comments you may have on this, thanks

Welcome ADJ, most of our members will be asleep for a few more hours I read something about this on a thread here once, being it's not as un-common as people think...

    I don't think it's the birth control.

How many glasses of water a day do you drink? When do you take your "last" drink...

Do you go in the morning, mid morning, or do you actually seem to go and then hold it without realising and then finding later at night small amounts on-going unil it's empty there occur?

Just a little more info may be able to provide you with opinions tomorrow when the member's return here.

    Welcome, again to the Forum.

I figured as much, just can't sleep because I've been thinking about this. I haven't been drinking anything for several hours before going to bed. I even switched to green tea over coffee in the morning. Tonight I haven't drank anything since 8pm it's now 5:50am my time and I had just tried falling asleep a couple hours ago, but had to get up 5 times within an hour to go to the bathroom.

Before sleeping, I make sure I go to the bathroom. Shortly after I lay down (it takes awhile for me to fall asleep) probably up to 15 minutes later, I have to go again. This happens many times before I can actually fall asleep. After I am asleep, I stay asleep, waking up maybe once to go to the bathroom. I'm starting to think it's all in my head, but it keeps happening. Can my bladder be overly sensitive to urine? If that were so, why am I not having this problem in the day time. I'm thinking I may be stressing myself out before I go to bed, thinking that if I don't go to the bathroom, then I will have to wake up after getting comfortable. It just doesn't make sense to me really.

I think I may try to get to sleep now

Okay, the areas you might want to view on our Forum are:-

    1. UTI's
    2....Cystis
    3. Diabetes

I would suggest therefore, you see your Doctor for a blood test and a check up... Your forgoing fluids which is really bad for you, and you need to confirm what so that you can treat which ever it is....

Maybe other's will reply as well that have had it but have a search through gyno section of this Forum, TOMORROW...

Since it is not happening during the day but only at night and in the same pattern every night I think you are right about it being all in your head. I believe you have successfully conditioned yourself to go pee before bed, get comfy then have the intruding thoughts of I should go pee again over and over. I have done the same thing but with my alarm clock. I made the mistake of checking it about 5 times before I went to bed before a midterm once and now I cannot help but check it maybe 20 times each night even if I am dead dog tired.

If you want a medical opinion, diabetes is my first hunch however after reading about the lack of constant urination throughout the day it really does not fit well.

I had a similar thing happen to me for two or three nights last week. It was only at bed time. Well it was in the late evening before I went to bed. I would go, and then maybe an hour later, I had to go again. But it wasn't just a little, it was the amount of a regular time I would go.
I did a little research, and apparently by going at every single urge, you can actually SHRINK your bladder, but by waiting a little, you can stretch your bladder back out to normal.

    That makes sense.

Doesn't UTI's also cause constant urinating though? blocking something? The OP doesn't drink during the day through fear of what is occuring at night, which isn't healthy, I'm sure I read somewhere maybe in the gyno section of this forum that UTI's cause this as well.

Have you consulted a Doctor yet ADJ or viewed some threads here?

UTIs can cause more frequent urination but that is the body's way of getting rid of the infection, to just flush everything out as frequently as possible. Without the burning sensation it is hard to tell if there is a UTI. A simple test (pee in a cup and send it to the lab) at the doctors office can confirm an infection. And technically I do not think a UTI "blocks" anything, it is just a bunch of bacteria causing grief.
