ok so i have a few questions, does ne one here have celiac disease?
main reason i ask is cause, i found out about 1 1/2 - 2 months ago that i am lactose & gluten intolerant. i found out after i went to my doc (we did a month long process of elimination). so 1 let me admit i haven't been to great about not eating gluten & dairy. ne ways well my hubby's sister (she is an RN) called me after read my post (over the month or 2) on facebook. she thinks that i might have celiac disease. she asked me a few things & it was very similar to wat i have been dealing with. later my dad called & he asked how i was doing. i said fine, without another word from me he brings up celiac disease too. i told my mom, who was talking to my aunt about my intolerances & she told my mom it sounds like celiac disease & that she has patiences who have it. so i have more than one person who suspects it & i'm wondering myself wonder now.
wat i experience wen i eat dairy & wheat (fyi wheat is the worse of 2 evils for me):
    -diarrhea
    -constipation
    -vomiting
    -headaches
-bloated (very very packed feeling in my belly)
-slight lose of appetite (i'm still eating though cause i'm having cravings)
-foul gas & greasy bowl movements (this is embarrassing)
-a very tender to the touch belly
-knotted tummy (so much so that some days i don't wanna move)
-some sharp pains in my lower abdomen

no i have done alot of reading & it sound very similar to the things i'm dealing with. on monday i'm gonna make a call to the doc about testing me for celiac disease but i want to c if ne one here has it or wat yall think? if u do have it, i know the only fix is to not eat gluten but how are u coping!

Now days there are so many alternatives that you can avoid gluten and dairy fairly easily. It's a bit more expensive, but well worth it I think for not feeling awful all the time.

Have you tried taking enzymes before you eat? That may help.

i do take pills for my lactos intolerance. & i just went grocery shopping & bought all non dairy & non gluten foods. i started eating right as of the 1st, i feel strongly about it this time but mainly the reason i ask about it is emotionally, how do they deal. i have a strong love for food. i don't like food because of my emotions but i love food because of the flavors & textures. i'm a big time cooker. i love cooking & creating. i almost feel as if food is my cigarette or my booze. & u wouldn't know it by looking at me. i'm all of 127 lbs. emotionally i feel fine right now, but i know that will end soon & my cravings will come back. how did others deal with it. & also did u know b4 the doc tested u? idk, i feel sorta lost right now. i'm also worried about the side effects of celiac.

I've never been to a doctor. I just know that when I eat those things, I feel crummy and when I don't eat them, I feel good.
There's a magazine called Living Without, you should pick it up next time you're at the store. It's full of recipes for celiac and lactose intolerance. There are also loads of recipes on the net for such things.

    Talking celiac

I have celiac disease. I am 61, and did not get diagnosed until 2005. It has been nothing short of a miracle. I won't go on about my array of diagnoses, but I have never felt so well, even as a child.

If you need an official diagnosis for some reason, by all means, see your physician. If not, just give it a try for a few weeks. My changes began within 48 hours of detoxing myself from gluten.

I am around if I can provide you with any knowledge I have gained, as I am a bit further down the path.

    Sincerely,

    Debbie

    Default Listen to your gut

Good grief, gal. What are you waiting for -- a bright neon sign that says "You have celiac disease". Whether you have non-celiac gluten intolerance or celiac disease (you do), the bottom line is the same. You are doing your body serious harm when you eat food with gluten. You are increasing your chance of all sorts of secondary physical and mental problems, not the least of which is cancer, osteoporosis, infertility, miscarriage, and others. Get serious about following a gluten free diet. That means lots of studying and learning at first, but then it's easy. There are many gluten free products on the market today. There is lots of outdated information on the web - such as you can't have vinegar, or alcohol, or modified food starch - so you need to get the correct information. Following the diet is much easier since the Food Labeling Act has been passed which requires food manufacturers to list the top eight allergens if they are in that food item. One of those items is wheat; another is milk -- so right there you have a big head start. Read Healthier Without Wheat by Steve Wagnan. Don't be bamboozled into getting a biopsy unless you are willing to follow the gluten free diet despite a negative finding. Biopsies are notoriously wrong when searching for celiac disease damage. Find a support group in your area -- google your city name and "celiac support". Get started now. It takes months or even years to heal the damage of gluten intolerance. Don't cheat - even a crumb of gluten results in the autoimmune reaction that can last for up to two weeks.

yep, i'm serious about it now. the 15th will 2 weeks without gluten. it doesn't seem like much, but i love food in all it's aspects. good food is like my alcohol & i'm the alcoholic, make sense? so 2 weeks is major for me. i find myself with horrible cravings for it but so far i have been able to hold strong. i have done alot of reading up on it & found many sites with recipes. thanks for the book recommendation! i'll try to find it!
i did the blood test not the biopsy. & i have been reading all the labels & looking for alternatives (kinda hard to find round here, so i have had to make my own)
