Exclamation Chiropractors: Believe 'em or not

    Yes, you read it right.

I have been to one tonight and he took a dozen x-rays on me. He sat me up on a chair, made me "pose". I had one where I was just sitting straight facing the machine, another facing the same direction but this time looking up, then with a wide open mouth. And, came the side ways: side facing the left, looking up, then looking down, just plain sitting and a whole lot more.

My issue is acid reflux, a traumatized clavicle and back, headaches, dizziness (sometimes), unusual bone structure change on the right wrist and general fatigue.

He said there is a nerve that has been sort of pinched by the misaligned spine and it can be corrected. And only that spot is causing it all. Hmmm, I told myself. Maybe it's worth a try.

He wanted to see me again to explain everything thoroughly, since he still needs to take a careful look at all the films. He wanted to set an appointment with my husband and I. He said it's crucial that my husband is there, and even told me that he'll accommodate Saturday appointments just to have my darling husband there. Now I am curious what is wrong, what did he find out?

Has anyone have any experience with chiropractors? How was it like? I think it's risky. Please share your experiences or at least knowledge about this, including the $$$$ you spent/are spending.

I LOVE my chiropractor! My headaches/migraines are better when I go at least 1-2 times per month. I just generally feel better.

Hubby enjoyed going to, but we actually bought an inversion table for him as his issues are the result of a horrible snowmobile accident. He hops on that thing about 3 times a week and LOVES it!

Depends on if insurance covers it...

Our insurance does, up to 24 visits per year. I have to pay a $10 co pay.

Some will work a certain number of sessions for a $$ amount if you don't have insurance though.

Your insurance should cover a good part of it - if you have insurance. I have a bio-physical chiropractor and when I had sciatica it made a big difference. It wasn't a miracle but it helped in several areas. They have their purpose, as does any specialist.

Maybe my husband's insurance could help. His is much much better than mine. We'll check on that as well.

It depends on the chiropractor. My wife has a missing verterbrae, yes a missing verterbrae. It must have been since birth because her spine has like a ball joint. She has no pain, but every once in awhile it catches (rarely). A doctor saw her xray and was mortified and couldn't explain how she is even walking. Every so often she needs to have a chiropractor adust her and she has been to several different ones. Most, view the xrays just like a doctor and (the competent ones) know exactly what to do. You should find a chiropractor/Homeopathy/holistic doctor, they can perform many adjustments and deep muscle massage. In my opinion this has helped her more than any traditional doctor and even though our insurance does not cover it, it is well worth it. Fiftyfive dollars for an hours worth of attention. Some medical savings plans will cover this.

Sounds like he's pushing a lot on unnecessary appoints/xrays/Saturdays...etc to upsell the whole thing.
I know one who said that's exactly what they do.

On the other hand, I went to a guy would was a chiropractor and acupuncturist. No xrays, nothing fancy, just a crack and a stick and I felt great.

The thing that I've found is that they can put the bones back in the right place, but if you don't have the proper muscle structure to keep them there, then it just goes right back. Not to mention doing any kind of physical activity that may pop something.

I've had a lot more success with deep tissue massage as well.

I would like to think that he's just being 'thorough' and not give me the "quack doctor" impression. *evilgrin

I would go back and listen to his litany of results, hopefully with my husband so he can help me quiz him.

Was the deep tissue massage you had suggested by the chiro?
