    Hey All,

I came to know about my asthma one year back. My asthma gets worse when I feel stressed. I start wheezing heavily and my breathing starts to get labored.

    Does stress trigger asthma?

Its a strong possiblity, do you get panic attacks as well?
Lifes not about how many breaths you take its about how many moments take your breath away!

It doesnt necessarily trigger asthma directly but it can aid in having an asthma attack because as you become stressed your heart rate increases causing your blood to flow faster which indirectly causes your breathing to change..Very complicated stuff :P Id say talk to your doctor or whoever it is that diagnosed you with asthma. Find out exactly what typed of asthma you have as there are many different kinds and ask him/her what triggers it

    Default Asthma

As someone who had asthma for 30+ years - Yes stress is an asthma trigger ... oddly enough so is laughing. Other unexpected triggers include cold air, wind and talking too fast.

If your only trigger is stress, you might be experiencing a panic attack .... which at first feels a lot like an asthma attack ...

    Hi kiaura,

You are right. The other night, I couldn't seem to breathe right. My friend kept making me laugh a lot. I took too much of my inhaler, and got the shakes, and had a hard time sleeping.

Just thought I would share...most of the time my asthma is under control but it reared its ugly head in the last few days...

    Hey LedZeppelin,

I checked with my doctor and he said that I am allergic to pets. He also said that pet's dead skin flakes, urine, feces, saliva and hair can trigger asthma. I am having pets with me and it's difficult for me to live without it.

awee so sorry your pets may be making you have asthma problems. I also have asthma due to being born premature and having a trake and having bad lungs. When i was younger i'd need daily breathing machines treatments to help now i just use an inhaler. That may help you cope with your breathing problems.

I would tend to believe....YES ...it can. My (minor) asthma is triggered by elongated exposure to cats and stress. Cats will often cause me to wheez and have trouble breathing. Stress tends to cause my chest to feel very tight and lump in my throat - and docs have given me temporary scripts for Advair to help (and it does wonders!).

I'd think there are many things that can trigger asthma....just depends on YOU.
