    Unhappy The Neverending HEADACHE!

I've had a headache since Friday afternoon. It's now late Monday morning and it is still there! It's on the right side of my head, kind of behind my eye, but it goes from my eyebrow to my ear and a little into my jaw. I don't think I have any dental problems that are causing it, but I go to the dentist on Thurs for a checkup and they'll know for sure...

I go to sleep with it and wake up in the morning with it. I've tried to wear comfy clothes, be in a cool, dark, quiet environment, etc... I've been drinking a lot of water and taking the usual OTC pain/headache meds to try to control it so I'm functional, but it still HURTS! I have a history of headaches, but they usually only last a few hours and can be cured with a cool compress, dark/quiet room, and Excedrine Migraine, but nothings working this time!

Any ideas how to get rid of this thing? Any home remedies I could try?
I'm almost at my wits end!

I get migraines all the time and I refuse to take the prescribed migraine medicine, it makes me feel odd and my whole face goes numb.

My Dr gives me prescriptions for 800mg Motrin, which I swear by. If I don't have those on hand, I take 4 Advils OR 4 Motrins with 2 Extra Strength Tylenol. Slap an ice pack to my neck and one to my forehead and go to sleep.

Also, there is a pressure point between your thumb and forefinger that you can apply pressure to. I swear, you may think I'm crazy, but it works. If I can find a diagram, I'll post it.

Thanks Lana - I will try the Motrin. I'm going to run to the store during lunch. Usually Excedrine works great for me, but its not even putting a dent in the throbbing this time... after 4 days, I'm getting almost neauseated from it!

I think I've heard about that pressure pt before - I'll give that a shot too, maybe I can find something if I google it. I do remember its somewhere in the meaty part of the hand btwn the index and thumb.

Another weird symptom is that my right nostril is runny, on the side I have a headache. But not the left. Is it possible to have a sinus affliction on only one side of your head? I don't usually have sinus or allergy problems, so I'm not sure what the deal is with having a runny nose on only one side - the side my headache is on.

My husband has migraines all his life. He gets minor ones that he takes Excedrin for.....but others, he takes Furenol (spelling?) and also has imitrex (for the most severe).

How much caffeine do you consume in a normal day? Sometimes too much caffeine can cause headaches....and sometimes they can help headaches. Aside from other food related causes.... and not to mention, menstrual cycles.

If you don't consume any (or much) caffeine, sometimes drinking a caffeinated soda can help. Atleast, it does for me. Excedrin actually has caffeine in it.

I've often had times where headachs will last for days.....and you get tired of taking the OTC meds. Eventually, they just go away with unknown reasons why they were there in the first place.

You can get checked for a sinus infection - and I'm sure anything is possible in terms of having one and it draining out one side. I have allergies & my sinuses are congested a lot...and more often...I can breathe freely out of one side but not the other.

Do you have any sinus pressure? That could be it too. I get severely killer headaches when I have a sinus infection. I'm actually going to the Dr for one this afternoon.

As pp said, try caffeine too. Unfortunately Excedrin has never done anything for me, so I've had to be creative, but I've dealt with migraines for about 25 years now, since I was 7!

No real sinus pressure to speak of.. just the hurting in my head from the headache, but thats more throbbing than pressure.

I don't have a big caffeine intake. I drink 1 cup of coffee 2 days a week, barely any soda... but I'll get a Mtdew and see if that works!
